We are seeking a full-time Japanese-English interpreter/translator with proven professional experience in both interpretation and translation. This role plays a vital part in our studio’s operations by enabling seamless communication between our creative teams and with international clients.
Key Responsibilities
Interpret verbal communication between Japanese and English for internal staff and clients.
Provide consecutive and/or simultaneous interpretation during meetings (in-person, phone, or web-based), supporting clear communication across teams.
Facilitate verbal understanding of concepts and feedback in the context of computer-generated (CG) animation, ensuring alignment between clients, directors, and creators.
Translate written materials—including technical documentation, emails, client feedback, and storyboards—between Japanese and English.
Review, proofread, and revise translated content for accuracy, consistency, and clarity.
Verify that translations retain the meaning and tone of the original material, ensuring technical terminology is correct and consistently applied.
Build and maintain a glossary of terms for use across projects.
Interpret and translate content with cultural sensitivity and awareness of the values of both Japanese- and English-speaking communities.
Work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment.
Required:
Fluency in both spoken and written English (native level preferred).
Fluency in both spoken and written Japanese (JLPT N1 or equivalent required; native level preferred).
Professional experience in both interpretation and translation (any industry, though experience in animation/games/VFX is highly preferred).
Experience with consecutive interpretation (simultaneous interpretation experience is a plus; training can be provided).
Must have a suitable work-from-home setup.
Preferred:
Proficiency in Mandarin.
Prior experience with simultaneous interpretation.
Background in animation, gaming, or VFX studios.
Personal interest in Japanese animation, gaming, or visual effects.
