Job description

We are a dynamic firm specializing in intellectual property and are seeking a Patent Executive to join its growing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing end-to-end patent and Industrial Design matters: from filing and prosecution to portfolio management and client advisory.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Patent Filing and Prosecution

    Oversee local and international patent filings, including the preparation, review, and submission of documents to MyIPO and foreign patent offices.

    Monitor and respond to office actions and examination reports within prescribed timelines.

  2. Patent Drafting and Technical Review

    Draft patent specifications in accordance with legal and technical standards.

    Offer strategic advice to clients on IP protection, portfolio development, and patent filing strategies in line with business goals and working closely with inventors or R&D teams.

  3. Patent Searches and Advisory

    Conduct novelty and prior art searches to assess patentability and potential conflicts.

    Prepare detailed analysis reports with strategic recommendations.

  4. IP Portfolio and Deadline Management

    Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in the patent management system, including case status, deadlines, and renewals.

    Proactively manage deadlines to prevent lapses or missed filings.

Requirements
  • Only candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences such as Chemistry, Biotechnology, etc. will be entertained.
  • Due to the advisory nature of the role, a high standard of English is required (minimum 35/40 on Jobstreet English Proficiency assessment).
  • Experience in patent prosecution, drafting, or IP portfolio management (minimum 3–5 years for the qualified role, minimum 1–3 years for the non-qualified role).
  • Working knowledge of Malaysian patent law, PCT procedures and preferably other major foreign patent systems (e.g. USPTO, EPO, JPO, CNIPA, etc.) would be advantageous.
  • Excellent command of English and Bahasa Malaysia (written and spoken); additional language skills (Mandarin or Japanese) are advantageous.
  • High level of attention to detail, strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage clients and colleagues across technical disciplines.
