Job summary

Job description

Focus on working closely with the business units on regulatory and Shariah compliance matters, assesses and measures compliance and related risks, and monitors GETB's compliance control environment in order to ensure compliance with BNM, MAS, MTA and other related regulations.

The Job:
  • Assist various departments on compliance and applications of regulations, Shariah principles and internal guidelines as well as operating processes.
  • Assist in monitoring compliance with internal policies, procedures and guidelines on a risk-based basis by performing regular and comprehensive Shariah review/compliance risk assessments and testing, identify gaps and prepare compliance review report to GETB management and Shariah Committee.
  • Work closely with Shariah Unit to identify/ assess the potential SNC events based on the defined parameter. To investigate the SNC events, including monitor and validate the remediation action plans to ensure proper closure.
  • Maintain an inventory of all essential laws and regulation pertinent to GETB, and maintain/ centralize all information on compliance-related issues (e.g. breaches of regulations, Shariah non-compliance (SNC) events, follow up on compliance related matters).
  • Undertake Compliance Assurance Process (CAP) on various business and functional departments on the compliance of the operations, business, affairs and activities of GETB to ensure compliance standards are met against Shariah requirements, relevant regulations, external and group/internal guidelines, policies as well as operating processes.
  • Compile ad-hoc compliance breaches/SNC events reported by various business & functional departments and monitoring of the timely resolution of the respective corrective actions. Coordinate the compilation of Monthly Compliance/SNC Event Reporting.
  • Preparation of reporting to Group, Senior Management Team, Shariah Committee and Board Risk Management Committee (BRMC) on periodic basis.
  • Assist in conducting briefing/training (as and when necessary and directed).
  • Undertake ad-hoc projects as assigned by Head of Department, Division Head, Shariah Committee and BRMC.
  • Ensure the effective implementation of the Shariah related training and other relevant training to new and existing staff.
Our Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Shariah, which includes study in Usul Fiqh or Fiqh Muamalat.
  • At least 5 years in Compliance/Internal audit/Insurance or banking industry. Candidate with takaful insurance experience is preferred.
  • Have sound understanding of relevant Shariah requirements applicable to Islamic financial business
  • Have good written & communication skills and able to promptly analyze Shariah & Compliance issues.
  • IT literate and have excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Is well informed of updates of all external and internal guidelines, policies and operating processes.
  • Have good understanding of regulatory guidelines, Shariah principles and governing laws.
  • Able to complete Compliance Assurance Process (CAP), including follow-up, drafting of compliance review reports according to the CAP standards within the stipulated deadlines.
  • Is analytical and possess an inquisitive mind.
