Overview
Lecturer in FinTech and Financial Programming at Henley Business School, University of Reading Malaysia. Reports to Head of Henley Business School, University of Reading Malaysia.
Purpose: Responsible for facilitating students’ learning through lectures, tutorials and seminars at undergraduate, postgraduate and masters levels.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate students’ learning through lectures, tutorials and seminars at undergraduate, postgraduate and masters levels on topics such as Financial management, Portfolio Management, Programming in Finance, Python, Machine Learning in Finance, Econometrics for Finance.
- Produce high quality teaching and learning material to support and develop student learning at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Contribute to the writing of course validation documents as required.
- Contribute to cross-Faculty development of curriculum and course materials.
- Exercise academic leadership, coordinating the efforts of colleagues to deliver module and programme objectives.
- Be an active member of relevant departmental committees.
- Enhance the quality of taught and research programmes at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels.
- Make independent decisions on the content of individual learning activities and marking for student assessment purposes, and provide advice to colleagues on such matters.
- Act as module lead as required, coordinating work to ensure modules are delivered to standards and respond to students’ needs.
- Act on peer observation feedback, student feedback, and external examiner feedback to maintain high quality in learning and teaching.
- Conduct research or write research articles in finance and publish in high impact journals and/or books.
- Observe and work within the University of Reading values and professional behaviours framework.
Supervision
Reports to Head of Henley Business School. Guidance from programme lead as required.
Contact
Frequent contact with staff in Malaysia and the UK, students, applicants, and visitors.
Terms and conditions
Full-time, permanent. Probationary period. Based in Malaysia. Duties may vary to meet programme needs without changing the character of the job.
Skills & Qualifications
- A relevant PhD in finance, financial engineering, financial programming and/or econometrics. A candidate pursuing a PhD in Finance.
- A strong foundation of finance through bachelor studies or CFA qualifications (for experienced lecturer).
Knowledge
- Deliver lectures on programming in finance, econometrics or Python; knowledge of business economics desirable.
- Advanced level of subject knowledge and external regard as lecturer or scholar.
- At least one year relevant teaching experience in higher education.
- Proven track record in development of teaching and learning support.
Research
- Journal publication and research plan for recognized journals.
- Active research in business economics, finance and/or computer programming, especially programming in finance.
Disposition
- Ability to keep abreast of developments in teaching and scholarship related to the subject area; attendance at conferences, external contacts, and where appropriate publication.
Other
- Ability to support students academically and pastorally.
- Ability to lead or work as part of a team.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills.
- Good presentation and IT skills.
- Awareness of diversity and inclusion in the workplace and in an educational context.
