A corporate firm in Malaysia is looking for a Legal Officer to assist in contract management, conduct legal research, and support compliance efforts. The ideal candidate must hold a Bachelor's Degree in Law and possess at least 2 years of relevant legal experience. Strong communication and analytical skills are essential, as well as the ability to manage multiple tasks. Experience in technology/SaaS is a plus. Assist in drafting, reviewing, and preparing standard commercial agreements (e.g., NDAs, service agreements, vendor contracts, and commercial arrangements).
Support senior counsel in contract negotiations by performing legal research and preparing preliminary contract summaries.
Ensure proper documentation, filing, and version control of all legal documents.
Track contract renewals and ensure timely follow-up with stakeholders.
Conduct legal research on corporate, commercial, employment, and data protection laws.
Prepare legal memos, summaries, and briefing notes for senior counsel or management.
Provide preliminary legal guidance on routine legal questions from internal departments under supervision.
Support due diligence exercises when required.
Assist in drafting and reviewing internal policies, SOPs, and corporate governance documentation.
Assist management in preparing legal and corporate documentation required for reporting to the U.S. parent company.
Ensure accurate documentation and tracking of legal and governance files.
Assist in monitoring legal and regulatory updates relevant to the business.
Help maintain compliance registers and checklists, ensuring company processes meet regulatory requirements.
Support in identifying legal risks and proposing basic mitigation steps for review by senior counsel.
Assist in preparing compliance training materials and awareness sessions for employees.
Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized institution; professional qualification (e.g., CLP, Bar, or equivalent) is required.
Minimum 2 years of legal practice or in-house counsel experience.
Basic understanding of contract law, commercial law, and compliance.
Strong research skills and keen attention to detail.
Good communication, writing, and analytical abilities.
Proactive, willing to learn, and able to work independently with guidance.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Experience or exposure to technology/SaaS or corporate commercial work is an advantage, but not mandatory.
