What this job involves:

We are currently seeking a Design Project Manager for our Project and Development Services team based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The successful candidate will be responsible for demonstrating high levels of project management skills, in particular the management of the entire lifecycle of design development of newbuild data centres, from project brief, concept and detailed design to tender and construction phases of the project.

Requirements:

• Bachelor Degree from an accredited institution. Must have previous experience managing HV Electrical projects and designs. Preference towards a Degree in Electrical Engineering, or Construction Management.
• Familiar with local statutory submissions and approvals process
• At least 5 years as a Project Manager, Design Manager or similar role.
• Ability to regularly communicate analyzed data to client and team to achieve project goals
• Strong working knowledge of technical drawings and single line diagrams.
• Highly organized with strong analytical skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to interact with executive level external and internal clients as well as external team members (architects, contractors, client’s representatives, etc.).
• Ability to manage all aspects of construction projects effectively and efficiently including, but not limited to budgeting, scheduling, submittals, change orders.
• Fully competent at managing all types/sizes of projects.

Responsibilities:

• Serve as the Client’s Design Representative:
  Act as the primary point of contact and trusted advisor for all design and construction-related aspects of high voltage power infrastructure within data centre projects. Represent the client’s interests throughout the full project lifecycle—from concept development through detailed design, construction, commissioning, and handover.

• Stakeholder and Consultant Coordination:
  Collaborate closely with internal client stakeholders, external design consultants, engineering firms, construction managers, and contractors. Ensure alignment across all parties to deliver integrated and compliant HV design solutions that meet project goals, timelines, and regulatory requirements.

• Design Package Oversight:
  Lead the coordination, clarification, and tracking of HV design packages. Facilitate technical reviews, ensure timely responses to RFIs, and manage documentation flow between the client and third‑party contractors to maintain design integrity and project momentum.

• Global Project Design Management:
  Oversee and manage HV design efforts across both domestic and international data centre projects. Ensure consistency in design standards, specifications, and execution strategies while adapting to local codes, utility requirements, and environmental conditions.

• Issue Resolution and Escalation Management:
  Proactively identify design‑related issues and lead the escalation process to drive timely resolution. Interface with technical experts, client PMs, and contractors to troubleshoot challenges and implement corrective actions that safeguard project delivery.

• Contractual and Commercial Support:
  Provide technical input and support during contract negotiations with third‑party contractors. Work in alignment with the client’s project manager and legal counsel to ensure design scope, responsibilities, and deliverables are clearly defined and contractually enforceable.
