The Environmental Microbiology Unit at AAR plays a pivotal role in advancing research and development initiatives aimed at integrating beneficial microbes into Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) to optimise oil palm cultivation. Our primary objective is to explore innovative ways to enhance soil health and agricultural productivity through the application of microbial solutions.
We research and develop ways to use beneficial microbes in oil palm cultivation to improve plant growth and soil health.
We study how different farming practices affect soil health and the environment to find ways to make oil palm cultivation more sustainable.
We work with the Agronomy Section to test and implement new farming practices that can enhance soil health and crop productivity.
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Field Research Specialist to join our team on a two-year contract, with the potential for an extension based on performance.
Duration: Two years, with the possibility of extension at two-year intervals.
Performance Evaluation: Based on performance and contribution, successful candidates may have the opportunity to transition to permanent employment.
Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Science, Crop Science, Soil Science, Tropical Forestry and Plantation, or a related field, with a minimum CGPA of 3.5.
Experience in oil palm field research, and estate-based trials is an advantage.
Good knowledge of data handling and basic statistical analysis (Excel, R, or equivalent).
Able to work independently in estate environments and travel to trial sites when required.
Strong attention to detail, good teamwork, and effective communication skills.
Candidates with a degree in Agricultural Science will be given priority.
Experience with biofertilizer production and application.
Strong understanding of microbial physiology and metabolism (additional advantages).
Support the setup and implementation of semi-commercial biofertiliser trials, including both internal and external collaboration.
Liaising and coordination with sampling team for data collection and sampling exercise.
Ensure accurate documentation of field layouts, treatments, and observations in accordance with established SOPs.
Perform data analysis to evaluate agronomic responses, not limited to vegetative growth, leaf nutrient and yield components.
Prepare summary reports, charts, and progress updates for internal reviews and presentations.
Good communication skills and good organisational skills.
Able to work in a team as well as independently.
