Job summary

A global leader in the tobacco industry is seeking an experienced engineer in Seremban, Malaysia. Sustainability/Environment, Health and Safety

Adheres 100% to all Sustainability policies and procedures. Respect health and safety legislation requirements.

Comply with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, PMI QMS, AWS requirements. Coordinate, check and approve project and work requests within defined timelines and resources.

Ensure compliance with safety rules and regulations. Perform safety risk assessment and eliminate identified risks accordingly together with contractors.

Quality

Ensure correct operation and maintenance of utilities equipment and systems to have uninterrupted supply of electricity, steam, gas, water and other energy sources for the site.

Monitor and optimize operation of engineering systems equipment to ensure rational use of energy sources.

Initiate modifications and up-grades of equipment that improve efficiency and participate in the implementation.

Ensure proper reporting according to local legislation and PMI procedures.

Proactively interact with all internal and external customers to continuously maintain updated knowledge of customer expectations in terms of quality.

Planning and Documentation

Collaborate with the steering committee to define the project scope and create a detailed work plan with tasks, timelines, and resources.

Set up a schedule that considers risk assessment and ensures smooth progress.

Manage all project documents and technical files to meet legal and company standards (i.e. filing, storage, archive).

Prepare and check technical documents and review drawings from contractors for accuracy.

Review technical drawings and documents from design consultants and contractors, using technical references to analyze their work.

Ensure project success by monitoring progress, coordinating tasks, and resolving issues.

Review designs and schedules to control the project plan.

Oversee material checks and supervise construction or equipment installation to maintain high quality.

Integrate new equipment, assess risks, and support documentation to meet legal and internal standards.

Lead equipment validation and coordinate computerized system validation.

Manage handover, commissioning, and registration of new equipment or facilities in systems like SAP, SAM and SLA to ensure further maintenance.

Equipment Operation and Maintenance

Ensure correct operation and maintenance of utilities equipment and systems in order to have uninterrupted supply of electricity, steam, gas, water and other energy sources for the site.

Monitor and optimize operation of engineering systems equipment to ensure rational use of energy sources. Develop maintenance strategies.

Ensure accurate input, update and completion of maintenance plans and activities. Ensure availability and update of equipment documentation. Initiate modifications and up-grades of equipment that improve efficiency and participates in the implementation. Ensure proper reporting according to local legislation and PMI procedures.

Stay informed on new technologies to reduce energy and water use, cut costs, and support environmental goals. Implement improvements in building management systems and test emergency utilities to ensure reliability.

Manage and improve all energy and environmental processes, including monitoring water use, wastewater, and CO₂ emissions to meet legal and sustainability standards.

Prepare long-term environmental plans and analyze performance to implement corrective actions and meet energy goals. Seek opportunities to reduce energy use and costs, and introduce new measurement methods to improve efficiency.

Oversee utility operations to ensure legal compliance, conduct failure analysis, and follow up on corrective actions. Supervise internal and external teams, ensure proper training, and enforce procedures and best practices to meet production and client needs. Keep abreast of new technologies and investigate them for possible future implementation.

Budget Management

Prepare proper analysis related to the costs of the utilities operation and maintenance in order to ensure accurate preparation of the annual and LRP budgets.

Initiate, plan and ensure development and implementation of productivity initiatives based on efficient utilization of budgetary funds and targeting optimum balance between cost, quality, service, safety and security.

Periodically control budget spending, propose actions to allow Facility Management to undertake corrective and improvement measures.

Collect, analyze and report total energy, electricity, gas, compressed air, steam and water consumption values as well as maintenance costs monthly.

Who we’re looking for
  • Degree in Engineering (Civil, Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical, etc).
  • At least 5 years’ experience in technical/Engineering departments, industrial environment and/or facility management / utilities operation.
  • Desired experience in asset management, contractors’ management, electrical systems, utilities equipment.
  • Strong project management experience. Formal education in PMPM, utilities processes and/or equipment is a plus.
  • Fluent English and local language (oral & written).
