Job summary

A creative media company in Malaysia is seeking an Environment Artist to create diverse 3D assets, from hard surface to organic models. The ideal candidate will translate 2D concepts into 3D, optimize assets for performance, and have proficiency in software such as Maya, Zbrush, and Unreal Engine. Strong detail orientation and the ability to adapt to various art styles are essential. This role allows for both teamwork and independent contributions.

Job description

As an Environment Artist you will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of assets, be it hard surface, organic, live or inanimate objects. Whatever the environment and story calls for, we provide. You will need to have a keen eye for detail and environmental storytelling, as well as an understanding of how things can come together in both realistic and fantastical settings.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Interpret initial briefs or 2d concepts and translate them into 3d models accurately.
  • Model and texture individual assets or block out, refine, and set dress entire environments.
  • Work together with other departments (for example rigging and simulation) to provide and refine assets based on more technical requirements.
  • Optimize assets and environments for performance without sacrificing render quality.
Requirements
  • Skilled in both hard surface and organic modeling.
  • Skilled in Maya, Zbrush, Substance Painter, and Unreal Engine.
  • Familiar with the process of asset creation from modeling, texturing, material setup, to rendering (both pre-render and real time)
  • Strong sense of composition, lighting, and color theory.
  • Excellent organizational and file management skills
  • Ability to adapt to vastly different art styles
  • Ability to work independently or with a team.
Bonus
  • Familiarity with other texturing softwares like Substance Designer, Quixel Mixer, Photoshop, etc
  • Familiarity with other modeling and/or procedural softwares, primarily about nature and landscape creation like Houdini, Speedtree, World Creator, etc
  • Additional interests that lend skills and knowledge to environment art like cinematography, illustration, architecture, geography, etc.
