Design Engineer – Large-Scale Solar Plant
(HQ, Glenmarie Shah Alam)
Role Summary:
Responsible for the technical design, layout, and performance optimization of utility-scale solar PV power plants.
1. System Design & Engineering
- Design the complete PV system including module layout, string sizing, inverters, and combiners.
- Prepare detailed electrical single-line diagrams (SLDs) and layout drawings.
- Determine optimal tilt angles, orientation, and row spacing to maximize energy yield.
- Size and select inverters, transformers, switchgear, and protection equipment.
2. Site Assessment & Layout
- Analyze site conditions, topography, solar irradiance.
- Work with civil engineers to integrate mounting structures.
- Optimize land use and access roads while meeting regulatory setbacks and environmental requirements.
3. Electrical Integration
- Design the AC collection system, including medium-voltage cabling, substations, and grid interconnection points.
- Ensure compliance with local grid codes, power quality, and reactive power requirements.
- Coordinate with utility companies and grid operators during the interconnection process.
4. Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure compliance with national electrical codes (NEC, IEC), safety standards, and local regulations.
- Prepare and maintain design documentation, BOMs, and technical specifications.
- Support permitting process by providing technical documentation to authorities and consultants.
5. Simulation & Yield Analysis
- Conduct energy yield assessments using PVsyst or equivalent software.
- Perform loss analysis (soiling, shading, mismatch, temperature).
- Provide inputs for LCOE and ROI analysis.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in relevant engineering field.
- Master's or Certifications (optional for advanced or specialized roles).
Technical
- Strong foundation in core subjects (math, physics, discipline-specific topics).
- Proficiency in tools/software relevant to their field.
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulations.
- At least 2 years experience in technical.
