A construction management firm is seeking a Construction Manager to oversee and lead multiple projects in Kuching, Malaysia. The Construction Manager is responsible for leading, coordinating, and managing multiple construction projects simultaneously, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. This role demands a proactive and decisive leader with excellent project management skills, and strong technical, financial, interpersonal skills, as well as the authority to drive performance across teams and contractors. The ideal candidate commands respect, maintains composure under pressure, and demonstrates the ability to effectively manage diverse stakeholders to achieve successful project outcomes.
A. Project leadership & Oversight
Oversee multiple construction projects from planning through to completion.
Lead site teams, project engineers, and contractors to ensure alignment with project objectives.
Provide clear direction, resolve conflicts, and maintain accountability at all levels.
Conduct regular site visits and project reviews to monitor progress and ensure quality and safety compliance.
B. Planning & Coordination
Develop comprehensive project plans, schedules, and resource allocations.
Coordinate with consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal departments to ensure seamless execution.
Anticipate and mitigate potential risks or delays through strategic contingency planning.
C. Cost & Contract Management
Leverage QS background to monitor project costs, variation orders, and claims.
Ensure accurate cost control, timely progress claims, and effective budget tracking.
Review and approve contractor valuations, procurement plans, and tender evaluations.
Identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising quality or safety.
D. Quality & Compliance
Ensure all projects comply with company standards, statutory requirement, and safety regulations.
Drive continuous improvement in quality assurance, workmanship, and site productivity.
Conduct regular inspections and audits to uphold construction excellence.
E. Stakeholder Management
Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, consultants, and senior management.
Provide transparent project updates, progress reports, and risk assessments.
Foster strong relationships while maintaining firm control over deliverables and expectations.
F. Team Development
Mentor and guide project teams, fostering a culture of accountability, discipline, and high performance.
Promote teamwork, clear communication, and professional growth among team members.
Lead by example with integrity, confidence, and a result-driven mindset.
Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in construction management, including at least 5 years in a leadership role.
Proven track record managing multiple concurrent projects.
Strong leadership qualities with a commanding presence and ability to influence and motivate teams.
Excellent understanding of project costing, scheduling, and contractual processes.
Hands-on knowledge of construction methodologies, sequencing, and site management.
Strong analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
Effective communication and stakeholder management skills at all levels.
High integrity, resilience, and the ability to work under pressure.
Willingness to travel to multiple project sites.
