Are you experienced in Critical Infrastructure Commissioning Processes? AWS is looking for a dynamic Commissioning Engineer (CxE) to support the delivery of AWS Data Centers. As a Data Center Commissioning Engineer, you will be part of a highly creative, efficient team tackling fascinating problems building and supporting the operations of AWS-owned data centers within the APJC region and globally. The AWS Data Center Capacity Delivery Commissioning team (DCCD Cx) defines and manages the expectations of construction and equipment quality in accordance with engineering designs to meet customer requirements.

Key responsibilities
  • The responsibilities of the DCCD Cx Commissioning Engineer (CxE) include oversight and coordination of multi-discipline work related to pre-commissioning and commissioning of Amazon critical infrastructure construction and special projects.
  • Manage and support commissioning vendors, contractors and other teams involved in the construction and commissioning of systems including high, medium and low voltage power systems, Generators, UPS, HVAC, Chilled Water, BMS and EPMS systems. Provide multi-discipline input into scheduling, design, planning of project execution and innovation projects. Review all multi-discipline integrated systems testing and commissioning documents for compliance with the basis of design, project specifications and standards.
  • Ensure commissioning procedures follow appropriate safety practices, policies and procedures. Participate in project and company safety programs. Audit commissioning activities to ensure compliance with environmental, quality, and safety requirements. Communicate with the DCCD Cx Regional Manager and the DCCD Cx team to ensure applicable test documents are created in accordance with commissioning requirements. Report commissioning progress and metrics weekly following the AWS project reporting format. Work on multiple initiatives and projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
  • Travel domestically and internationally up to 25% of the time (typical travel is 10%). May work longer than eight hours with possible night and weekend work.
Systems Analysis
  • Understand the design concept and intent by reviewing mechanical and electrical construction documentation, including drawings, specifications, vendor submittals and sequences of operations.
  • Provide recommendations and feedback regarding design, equipment selection, pre-functional checklists, startup and functional test scripts; maintainability, construct-ability and commission-ability.
  • Review documentation for compliance with Amazon standards, industry standards, and design specifications.
  • Assess the capability of commissioned systems to match the design and identify opportunities for improvements.
Systems Validation
  • Verify system performance, establish acceptance criteria, review completed reports, and perform verification and validation.
  • Validate as-built documentation and review for accuracy and completeness.
  • Communicate commissioning issues, questions and concerns through proper channels in a timely manner.
  • Partner internal and external teams to ensure the commissioning regime has sufficient depth and breadth.
  • Support commissioning audits.
Project Management
  • Manage and execute commissioning of critical infrastructure to validate installation, operation and performance of mechanical, electrical and controls systems.
  • Serve as the point of contact for commissioning vendors’ escalations, developing mitigation plans to unblock obstacles.
  • Manage vendors via audits of deliverables and setting expectations with commissioning vendors to align with Amazon requirements.
  • Develop project schedules and plans, including project deliveries, strategic initiatives and innovation projects.
  • Represent DCCD Cx in project coordination meetings with external vendors and contractors and internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain quality of commissioning documentation.
  • Manage concurrent projects across multiple geographical regions and time zones.

The AWS Data Center Capacity Delivery Commissioning Team (DCCD Cx) is an independent critical infrastructure validations team within the Data Centre Global Services (DCGS) organization. We are a team of Electrical, Mechanical, Controls Engineers, Project Managers, Operators and Amazonians focused on engineering and operational review and testing of equipment designs, operations, and construction practices to ensure rapid delivery of a quality product while maintaining transparency and recording metrics of manufacturer/contractor/equipment issues.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Experience in commissioning
  • 3+ years in commissioning; mechanical or electrical design; construction project management; control system installation or maintenance; HVAC testing and balancing; facilities operations and/or maintenance
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Ability to read and understand construction documents (design drawings, control diagrams, specifications)
