CELPAD TEACHER/LECTURER (DG9) - Bahasa Melayu Division Centre for Languages

Post: CELPAD Teacher/Lecturer
Grade: DG9
Status of Appointment: Contract
Basic Salary: RM2,470.00 – RM11,110.00 (based on experience)

Kulliyyah (Faculty): Centre for Languages and Pre‑University Academic Development
Location: Pagoh, Johor

The officer shall be a member of the staff of the Kulliyyah/Centre/Department to which he is assigned by the IIUM and shall perform teaching, examining, and research duties and such other obligations as are normally required of an academic staff member of the IIUM. The officer should also undertake moral and religious obligations in relation to his colleagues and students as part of his duties as a member of the academic staff of IIUM.

The officer shall attend meetings of IIUM authorities, boards and committees to which he, as an academic staff member, may be appointed by virtue of the IIUM Constitution or any statutes, acts, or administrative actions of the Rector, Dean or Head of the Kulliyyah/Centre/Department. He is also expected to participate in the general life of the IIUM community and to advise and guide students in relation to their character, behaviour and moral conduct. In short, he is not only a teacher (Mu’allim), a scholar ('Alim) but also a moral educator (Murabbi).

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct lecturers, tutorials, practical sessions, and studio work in accordance with the endorsed syllabus and what is directed by the Kulliyyah, with a minimum of 18 hours per week.
  • Assign coursework to students, check and assess the assignments.
  • Prepare reports of students’ abilities and progress for the Director or the Head of Department.
  • Vet test or examination questions and assess the answer scripts according to the timeframe.
  • Invigilate examination sessions when needed.
  • Prepare students’ attendance report for the Director or the Head of Department.
  • Attend meetings related to teaching and learning.
  • Attend workshops whenever required.
  • Abide by the IIUM secrecy codes as stipulated in the IIUM rules and regulations.
  • Attend to other duties and responsibilities assigned from time to time.
Other Requirements
  • Teachers/Lecturers are required to be on campus during office hours and during official duties whenever required.
  • Teachers/Lecturers are required to attend any meeting conducted at the branch campus as needed.
  • Teachers/Lecturers must adhere to the IIUM “Code of Ethics” and the “Dress Code”.
  • While in service with the IIUM, lecturers are subjected to all rules enforced by the University.
  • Staff can be posted to any IIUM campus.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (BA or BEd) in Bahasa Melayu, Linguistics, Literature or other related specialisations.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in an unrelated area but with at least a certificate in language teaching in the above specialisations and a minimum of three years’ experience teaching Bahasa Melayu.
  • Minimum CGPA of 3.0 and above or the equivalent degree based on JPA recognition.
  • Preferably candidates with Band 4 MUET.

  • Fundamental knowledge of pedagogy and instructional methods.
  • Proficiency in the relevant subject area.
  • Basic classroom and time management skills.
  • Clear and effective communication abilities.
  • Ability to use standard digital tools for teaching and learning.
  • Professional conduct and adherence to ethical standards.
Language Qualifications
  • Credits in Bahasa Malaysia and English language (including oral examination) at Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) level or equivalent qualification recognised by the Government (for Malaysian citizens).
  • IELTS Band 6 / MUET Band 4.
  • Candidates without these qualifications will be required to sit for the IIUM English Language Proficiency Test.
