Assistant Category Manager (Merchandising - Grocery Non Food)
To assist Senior Category Manager for both strategic planning and merchandising.
Responsibilities
- Business Acumen - Execute sourcing strategies to maximize the new merchandise insights to help drive overall product launch strategy.
- Ensure that Merchandising & Buying Teams are effectively resources, directed, motivated and developed enabling them to reach their full potential for both individual and Company benefit.
- People - Works closely with every involved party to ensure that there is a joined-up process between inbound and outbound stock movement.
- Work closely with Marketing teams on deciding how products should be displayed to maximise customers’ interest and sales.
- Work with Customer Service and Marketing Teams to ensure a mechanism is in place for managing quality problems with products in the marketplace.
- Ensure team members are kept abreast of current issues both at departmental and Company level through effective communication forums.
- Drive and develop performance of the team with a view to optimising output and achievement of objectives whilst effectively managing performance issues.
- Process - To be involved in the overall ranging strategy ensuring that through effective range control process and pricing strategy, product selections is in line with consumer trends and in line with sales and margin targets.
- Ensure that products on sales floor provide inspiration for customers and retail team and that the selected ranges support the Company brand essence.
- Support on the range changes include new products launch, clearance activities, overstocks and implementation of new floor range stock are executed with careful planning and liaison with Stores, Marketing, Vendors & Suppliers and Distribution Centre ensuring any information is distributed in a timely manner.
- Assist to ensure that product range performance is monitored taking the appropriate action to ensure the identification and agreement on action plans to deal with best and worse seller in order to optimise performance.
- Develop forward promotional strategies ensuring that all events are properly planned meeting margin and sales targets and all results are properly analysed.
- Ensure commitment levels placed on stock lines are consistent with the range and promotional objectives.
- To adhere and enforce all Company’s policies and procedures.
- Undertake/participate in any ad hoc projects or other relevant duties as assigned from time to time.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Requirements
- Candidate must possess at least a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in retail management or other related fields.
- Retail in supermarket and merchandising experience would be an added advantage.
- At least 5 year experience in managing a team.
- Possess strong planning, organizing, communication, business acumen, presentation, result-driven.
- Computer literacy in MS Office.
- Have own transport and willing to travel as when needed.
