Overview

A new opportunity has arisen for a skilled Application Engineer (Electrical) to oversee and bring expertise to our team at Rolls-Royce Power Systems. The company designs mtu-brand high-speed engines and propulsion systems for ships, power generation, heavy land, rail and defence vehicles, and for the oil and gas industry as well as diesel and gas systems and battery containers for mission critical, standby and continuous power, combined generation of heat and power, and microgrids.

Responsibilities
  • General - Responsible for all application engineering related electrical solution engineering for major Data Center Projects in Malaysia.
  • Collaborate with the regional application team on application engineering work.
  • Advise the regional team (application engineering) of local Malaysian standards and norms applicable to our business.
  • Assist to develop and manage complete scope from initiation to onsite delivery of electrical systems related to the diesel genset enclosure.
  • Define the technical scope with the regional team.
  • Review/clarify customer specifications and tender documents.
  • Review and finalize the C/D/E documents with the regional application engineering team.
  • Provide the technical specifications and define the scope of supply for the equipment.
  • Coordinate with factory and local suppliers to harmonize the scope of supply.
  • Work with suppliers/contractors to quote for the equipment and obtain proposals timely.
  • Solution Engineering Matters - Ensure all electrical designs and installations comply with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Define electrical systems requirements for walk-in genset enclosures suitable for project needs.
  • Provide electrical/automation design and prepare drawings and documents for customer technical requirements.
  • Calculate, verify, and select the right equipment/suppliers.
  • Use computerized engineering tools/database, technical library information and factory standards for solution engineering work.
  • Assist in diagnosing and resolving electrical issues related to power generation and distribution.
  • Provide and maintain product and solution engineering information.
  • Prepare and carry out technical presentations and training.
  • Ensure project governance in accordance with company project steering guidelines.
  • Verify and confirm shop drawings, P&ID, datasheets, and similar technical documents to ensure customer specification compliance.
  • Finalize equipment scope and specifications and collaborate with internal departments to procure equipment.
  • Raise purchase requisitions for the scope of supply.
  • Support the execution team to resolve technical issues related to mechanical systems during project execution, from packaging to site work.
  • Participate in design reviews and lessons learnt sessions; provide insights to enhance system performance and efficiency.
  • Establish close working relationships with local site stakeholders.
  • Working with internal stakeholders and suppliers - Report to the APAC application engineering lead on project-related aspects.
  • Collaborate with the APAC hub on order-specific technical drawings and documentation.
  • Participate in genset enclosure FAT to understand deliverables.
  • Align with APAC hub to improve technical execution and customer experience.
  • Other Matters - Travel overseas on business when required and stay updated with technical developments of the market and internal products. Special assignments may be given from time to time.
  • Qualifications and Skills - University/college studies in Electrical Engineering.
  • Proven experience in engineering genset enclosure solutions in the diesel engine/generator industry (minimum 5 years).
  • Solid understanding of automation, electrical, and protection systems of a diesel generator set and ability to integrate into genset enclosure design.
  • Knowledge of engineering calculations for genset electrical systems (e.g., load and short-circuit sizing).
  • Ability to conceptualize and execute complex electrical system designs with cost benefits for the customer.
  • Create and review electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and system layouts.
  • Good understanding of Asian cultures and business practices.
  • Good team player with proactiveness, strong communication skills and a positive attitude.
  • Willingness to travel, mainly in APAC.
  • Proficient in English and Malay, both written and spoken.
