About the role:
A specialist inpatient service is seeking a dedicated Occupational Therapist to join its multidisciplinary team, supporting adults with learning disabilities and/or autism who have complex needs and require inpatient care under the Mental Health Act. This role focuses on promoting health, independence, and meaningful participation through high-quality assessments and interventions.

The successful candidate will manage a designated caseload, applying both theoretical knowledge and practical skills to assess needs, develop tailored care plans, and evaluate outcomes. They will play a key role in enhancing service users’ daily living skills, adapting environments, and implementing strategies to support recovery.

Key responsibilities:

1. Conduct comprehensive occupational therapy assessments to evaluate service users’ functional abilities and identify therapeutic goals.
2. Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, contributing to care planning and risk assessments.
3. Provide clinical leadership, supervision, and consultation to junior staff, including Occupational Therapy Assistants.
4. Support the professional development of the team, including supervision, student placements, and appraisals.
5. Lead on the development and implementation of policies, protocols, and care pathways to enhance service provision.
6. Communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders, including clinicians, external agencies, service users, and their families.
7. Participate in and support the completion of additional sensory integration training where appropriate.

Requirements:

1. Degree in Occupational Therapy and registration with the HCPC.
2. Experience working with individuals with learning disabilities and/or autism who have complex needs.
3. Strong knowledge of occupational therapy models and intervention frameworks.
4. Effective clinical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
5. Knowledge of how to work with vulnerable individuals and an understanding of safeguarding principles.
