Key Responsibilities
Client, Site and Safeguarding Focus:
- Apprentice Employer Site Checks: Undertake regular site visits and safety audits of apprentice employer premises (e.g., workshops, marinas, shipyards) to verify that the working environment meets legal health and safety standards suitable for learners.
- Safeguarding Compliance: The successful applicant will need to pass an Enhanced DBS Check and complete current Safeguarding and Prevent training short courses. You will communicate and consult with the CMN Safeguarding Team on any Health and Safety issues that could impact the welfare of apprentices, raising concerns as soon as you become aware of any.
- Paperwork Completion: Accurately complete and submit all necessary inspection and compliance paperwork in a timely manner following site visits or advisory sessions.
- Sector‑Specific Advice: at the request of CMN, provide expert, specialist advice and support to clients, particularly those operating in the marine, boatbuilding, and engineering environments.
CMN Office and Leadership Support:
- Office H&S Management: Advise and undertake necessary Health and Safety checks and risk assessments at CMN’s own office premises.
- Executive Advice and Communication: Provide direct, strategic Health and Safety advice and briefings to the CMN CEO and senior team as required and communicate effectively with the CEO on all critical compliance matters.
- Internal Leadership: Lead and facilitate occasional internal CMN team meetings focused on Health and Safety updates, policy changes, and best practices.
- Incident Investigation: Where requested, lead and thoroughly document accident, incident, and near‑miss investigations.
Qualifications & Experience
- Qualifications: Minimum of NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent such as NVQ Level 5/6).
- Experience: Minimum of 5‑years of practical experience as a Health and Safety Advisor/Consultant. Experience in the marine or engineering sectors would be beneficial, but not essential.
- Professional Membership: Hold Chartered Membership (CMIOSH) of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health or be actively working towards.
- Safeguarding Clearances: Ability to obtain and maintain a satisfactory Enhanced DBS Check and evidence of recent Safeguarding and Prevent training.
- Commercial Status: Self‑employed and hold appropriate Professional Indemnity and Public Liability insurance.
- Mobility: Must hold a full, valid UK driving licence, be based in Cornwall, and be willing and able to undertake the required local travel, including to the Isles of Scilly.
Key Skills & Attributes
- Communication: First‑class written and verbal communication skills, able to engage effectively with all levels of personnel.
- Integrity: High standards of professionalism, integrity, and discretion, especially when dealing with sensitive safeguarding and internal corporate matters.
- Leadership: Proven ability to lead meetings and influence decision‑makers at a corporate level.
- Proactivity: Highly organised, motivated, and capable of managing a demanding workload and travel schedule independently.

Additional Information
- Predominantly In‑person delivery in Cornwall
- The role necessitates travel in and around Cornwall. Occasional travel to the wider South West and to the Isles of Scilly may be required to meet client and apprentice site check obligations.
- Pays half‑hourly rate for travel time and 45p per mile
- Flexible schedule – work around your availability
- Weekdays only – no evenings or weekends
