Job summary

A leading healthcare organization in Birmingham is seeking an experienced TB Nurse to manage tuberculosis within the prison sector. The successful candidate will work closely with prison healthcare teams and demonstrate a strong commitment to serving diverse and underserved populations. Overview

A unique opportunity has risen for an experienced TB Nurse to manage and control TB in the prison, in collaboration with prison healthcare teams and UKHSA.

Main duties

The specified person must have experience with working with disadvantaged communities (underserved populations). Must be flexible and be able to attend to prison alerts as and when required (immediately, at short notice).

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Registered Adult / Child Nurse on the NMC Register (field dependent upon role)
  • Evidence of post-registration CPD
  • Post-registration qualification in Tuberculosis
  • Professional knowledge supplemented by specialist experience and short courses to degree / master's level equivalent (FHEQ Level 6 / 7)
  • Recognised mentorship/teaching qualification (e.g. mentorship course)

Desirable

  • MSc / working towards a Master's qualification
  • Advanced Health Assessment module — completed or working towards (where applicable to the role)
  • Non-Medical Prescriber (V300) or willingness to undertake (where applicable to the role)

Experience

Essential

  • Evidence and ability to revalidate as required by the NMC
  • Significant post-registration experience at Band 6 or above, ideally in TB, respiratory, infectious diseases, or related specialty
  • Demonstrable experience of autonomous practice at a specialist level
  • Evidence of achievements and career development in current/previous posts
  • Demonstrates expert specialist knowledge underpinned by theoretical learning and CPD
  • Evidence of implementing change through COHORT review
  • Experience in teaching, assessing, supervising, and supporting staff and students in practice
  • Experience of working within multidisciplinary teams and across agencies (health, social care, public health)
  • Evidence of providing advocacy for patients/service users
  • Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate specialist care
  • Awareness of NHS policy context relevant to TB and public health
  • Understanding of safeguarding principles and responsibilities
  • Knowledge of clinical and corporate governance frameworks

Desirable

  • Experience of delivering change management both personally and as a facilitator
  • Experience in service development and quality improvement
  • Awareness of and involvement in current research related to TB or respiratory/infectious diseases

  • Advanced communication and interpersonal skills: able to work with patients, carers, and professionals on complex and sensitive issues with persuasion and empathy
  • Extensive experience of working autonomously and managing/prioritising own workload
  • Ability to supervise, appraise, and assess junior staff
  • Competence in a range of specialist clinical skills relevant to TB care (e.g., venepuncture, medicines management, infection control, advanced assessment)
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure across competing priorities
  • Ability to undertake and lead on clinical audit, analyse findings, and develop measurable action plans
  • Evidence of ability to compile accurate reports and documents for internal and external audiences
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practice and ability to apply it to service and policy development
  • Ability to adapt behaviour to changing circumstances
  • Positive and enthusiastic attitude
  • Ability to communicate articulately and motivate others
  • Evidence of flexible and innovative approach to service delivery and development
  • Ability to work a varied shift pattern where required
