General Practice Nurse (GPN) Clinical Lead for Training Programmes

The post-holder will play an active andvisible role working to inform and shape WY PCWT Hub clinical initiatives. The post-holder will provide high-quality clinical leadership and support for the delivery of keytraining programmes. Working collaboratively with clinical educators, programmeleads and operational teams to ensure that learners are well-supported,clinical standards are maintained, and that training activities align withprofessional and organisational objectives.

Main duties of the job

JOB PURPOSE: To work in partnership with WY PCWT Hub and external partners to develop, deliver and evaluate a range of educational support initiatives for primary care staff working primarily within general practice. To facilitate the continuedembedding of new roles in primary care by providing training programmes that align with the Uk Governments directives for primary care.

About us

Our West Yorkshire Primary Care Workforce & Training Hub (PCWTH) has a team of clinicians, managers and administrators who work with individual practices, advising practice managers and clinicians about workforce initiatives available to them. We also offer workforce planning advice and signpost the best available training and education. We are responsible for the coordination of General Practice placements for undergraduate healthcare professionals across West Yorkshire. We help students to consider primary care as a future career and first destination career choice and we help General Practices to develop their potential future workforce. Our PCWTH is supported and directed by an expert group of clinicians and workforce managers who provide governance and clarity of purpose.

Job responsibilities

JOB TITLE - General Practice Nurse (GPN) Clinical Lead for Training Programmes

REPORTS TO -Senior Project Manager

ACCOUNTABLE TO - TPC Chief Operating Officer

HOURS - 7.5 hours per week 12 months Fixed Term

(Note - TPC is not an Agenda for Change employer, but does offer the NHS Pension)

JOB SUMMARY-The post-holder will play an active and visible role working to inform and shape WY PCWT Hub clinical initiatives. The post-holder will provide high-quality clinical leadership and support for the delivery of key training programmes. Working collaboratively with clinical educators, programme leads and operational teams to ensure that learners are well-supported, clinical standards are maintained, and that training activities align with professional and organisational objectives.

JOB PURPOSE- To work in partnership with WY PCWT Hub and external partners to develop, deliver and evaluate a range of educational support initiatives for primary care staff working primarily within general practice. To facilitate the continued embedding of new roles in primary care by providing training programmes that align with the Uk Governments directives for primary care.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical Education and Training

Communicate with individual practices & Primary Care Networks (PCNs) to provide support and promote the educational and training offers available to them.

Support the development and implementation of training programmes and schemes, including delivery of competency assessments and practice observation.

Facilitate induction and orientation for training programmes, and preceptorship programmes for nursing and other relevant roles, including the non-registered healthcare staff working within General Practice and PCNs.

Contribute to the development of learning materials and resources tailored to the training needs of clinical staff in Primary Care.

Promote workforce development with a specific focus on enhancing the recruitment of new, and the retention of current staff.

Provide constructive feedback and assessments in line with programme frameworks and standards.

Deliver clinical supervision and training to learners, including online virtual teaching and live clinical settings.

Professional Support and Supervision

Demonstrate a strong commitment to making general practice the best place to work and train.

Act as a clinical role model, demonstrating clinical leadership through high standards of practice and professional behaviour.

Provide mentorship and pastoral support to trainees and learners to enhance clinical confidence and competence.

Collaborate with placement areas to support the quality of the learning environment and to identify learning opportunities.

Quality and Governance

Support quality assurance processes related to training, including evaluation, audits, and data collection.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date training records, competency logs and learner feedback.

Escalate concerns related to clinical practice or learner performance in line with organisational policies.

Work together with the WY PCWT Hub team to ensure delivery against key performance indicators.

Communication and Collaboration

Liaise effectively with practice educators, clinical leads, higher education institutions, and professional bodies to ensure consistent support and alignment for learners and enable the development of safe and effective interprofessional clinical learning environments.

Foster strong working relationships within the training hub team, encouraging open communication, shared goals, and collaborative problem-solving to enhance programme delivery.

Contribute actively to regular training programme reviews, learner experience meetings, and team discussions, sharing insights and best practices.

Promote a culture of continuous learning, mutual support, and professional development across all clinical and educational teams

Attend relevant workforce meetings as planned by the senior project manager.

HEALTH & SAFETY

The post-holder will implement and lead on the full range of promotion and management of their own and others health, safety and security as defined in TPCs health & safety policy, health & safety manual, and infection control policy and published procedures. This will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Ensure they adhere to their individual responsibilities for infection control and health and safety.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of health and safety and infection control statutory and best practice guidelines.
  • Using personal security systems within the workplace according to TPC guidelines.
  • Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks across the business.
  • Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills.
  • Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way free from hazards, and initiation of remedial/corrective action where needed.
  • Actively identifying, reporting, and correction of health and safety hazards and infection hazards immediately when recognised.
  • Keeping own work areas and general/patient areas generally clean, identifying issues and hazards/risks in relation to other work areas within the business, and assuming responsibility in the maintenance of general standards of cleanliness across the organisation.
  • Undertaking periodic infection control training (minimum annually).
  • Routine management of own team/team areas, and maintenance of workspace standards.
  • Demonstrate due regard for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

To undertake any identified training and development related to the post and undertake statutory and mandatory training as deemed appropriate by TPC.
