Who we're looking for
We are seeking a dynamic and proactive Communications and Engagement Officer to support our Environmental Services Team in developing and delivering innovative behaviour change campaigns that encourage residents and businesses to adopt more sustainable waste and recycling habits.
You should have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with experience in developing and executing multi-channel communication strategies. You will be confident in engaging with diverse audiences and have a creative approach to translating complex information into accessible, engaging content.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience in communications, public engagement, or behaviour change campaigns.
- Understands behavioural science principles and how they apply to waste and recycling behaviour.
- Can write engaging content tailored for different audiences across various platforms.
- Is confident in organising and delivering community engagement events and campaigns.
- Has strong stakeholder management skills and experience working with internal and external partners.
- Is proactive, organised, and able to manage multiple priorities.
What you'll be doingThis role will support one of our key priorities in ensuring our communities and stakeholders are informed, engaged, and motivated to adopt sustainable waste management practices. You will be responsible for:
- Developing and delivering evidence-based behaviour change campaigns to promote waste reduction and recycling.
- Creating engaging content for digital and print media, including social media, newsletters, press releases, and website content.
- Organising and attending public engagement events, school visits, and community outreach activities.
- Conducting research and analysis to understand barriers to recycling and shape campaign strategies.
- Working collaboratively with internal teams, external partners, and stakeholders to ensure clear and consistent messaging.
- Monitoring and evaluating campaign impact using data insights and community feedback to refine engagement strategies.
