A leading healthcare institution in the UK seeks a Consultant Ophthalmologist specializing in Oculo Plastics. This permanent role involves providing high-quality patient care at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, contributing to emergency and outpatient services, and supervising junior medical staff. The post is for a Consultant Ophthalmologist with an interest in Oculo Plastics. This is a permanent post in the Musculoskeletal and Specialist Surgery CMG (MSS) and the Ophthalmology services are based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary within the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.
The post holder will be joining the Ophthalmic Oculo Plastics unit which consists of three full‑time Consultants, three Oculo Plastics fellows, and three specialist corneal nurses. We offer super‑specialised clinics including Oculoplastics, Lacrimal and Lids.
The appointee will have a principle interest in Oculo Plastics Ophthalmology and they will be expected to contribute to the Oculo Plastics Ophthalmology service on the Leicester Royal Infirmary (LRI) site and associated community hospitals and community sites. Participation on the on call rota and in the eye casualty department is essential.
The Ophthalmology Service in UHL is currently providing patient care specialising in the areas of Medical retina, Uveitis, Oculoplastics, Lacrimal, Cornea, Glaucoma, Vitreoretinal surgery, Neuro Ophthalmology and Paediatric Ophthalmology. The service operates through three acute teaching hospitals serving the population of Leicestershire and through peripheral units and community GP sites including Loughborough, Hinckley, Coalville, Melton, Market Harborough, Oakham and several community GP sites.
Applicants must already be on the GMC specialist register or within 6 months of the interview date have a certificate of completion of specialist training.
As this post is regulated by the Protection of Children Act 1999, the Criminal Justice Courts Act 2000 and / or the Care Standards Act 2000 an enhanced police criminal records disclosure will be requested by the Trust in the event of a successful application.
