Senior Backend Software Engineer, Rust & Python

At DataBeacon, our mission is to revolutionize the aviation industry using a modern technology stack, open source technologies, and lean architectures.

Our first product is SimpliFID, an Aerodrome Flight Information Service (AFIS) that covers most functionalities of a radar system at a fraction of the costs. Built in Rust, Python, and TypeScript, it sources data from ADB-S and Mode-S Secondary Surveillance Radar (SSR) systems over the Asterix CAT021 Surveillance Data Exchange protocol and delivers it to users with near-zero latency. Our main focus is on scalability, security, and the development and discovery of additional products in real-time data services for the aviation space.

In anticipation of exciting challenges ahead, we look forward to expanding our engineering team with an exceptional TypeScript and React Software Engineer.

Responsibilities include:

1. Develop, maintain, and improve DataBeacon’s frontend applications;
2. Work with a small, motivated, and skilled team of engineers;
3. Participate in technical decisions and roadmap planning;
4. Experiment with and adopt new exciting technologies;
5. Operate with minimal administrative overhead and create a real impact;
6. Submit your first patch within a week and your first feature within a month.

Requirements:

• At least 3+ years of relevant professional experience building reliable software applications;
• Mastery of TypeScript, React, and a client state management library such as Redux;
• Good command of English and strong communication skills;
• Located in Madrid or surrounding areas.

Nice to have:

• Experience with MapBox or MapLibre;
• Experience using Web Sockets and/or Server-Sent Events;
• Motivation to learn Rust and WebAssembly;
• Familiarity with containerized distributed applications deployed in AWS;
• Experience developing critical software in highly regulated sectors;
• Interest in aviation.
