The Opportunity

Duties

Reporting to the Manager, Protection Services, Protection Service Officers are responsible for ensuring a safe and secure environment for staff, patients, and visitors. Responsibilities include controlling access, reporting irregularities, responding to emergencies, assisting with patient interventions, and educating others on safety and security. Key activities include:

• Patrolling health centre buildings and exterior areas
• Responding to alarms and emergency procedures
• Monitoring security via CCTV
• Assisting in the Emergency Department with access control and patient support
• Handling documents, specimens, and deliveries appropriately
• Managing parking systems and related duties
• Traffic control and detaining individuals suspected of committing crimes until police arrive
• Operating the Helideck and related duties

Hours of Work

Monday to Friday; 3 pm - 11 pm

Your Qualifications

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• Post-secondary diploma in Security, Corrections, Law Enforcement, or equivalent experience
• Minimum two years security experience, preferably in a hospital
• Current BLS certification within the last 12 months
• First Aid Certification
• Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Certification
• Training in Fire & Safety, Self-Defense, WHMIS
• Physical fitness to stand, walk, and respond quickly in emergencies
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Suite
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to make quick decisions and judgments under stress
• Leadership and initiative qualities
• Knowledge of additional languages is an asset
