Are you looking for a role that will challenge you? If you answered yes, our Chalk River location is looking for an IT Software & Cloud Architect to be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing the software and cloud architecture of the organization's IT systems. Can you see yourself evaluating and selecting software technologies, defining software architecture standards and best practices, and overseeing the design and deployment of cloud-based solutions? Does the idea of collaborating with cross-functional teams, including hardware architects, infrastructure analysts, network analysts, IT security analysts, and software developers, to design and implement scalable, secure, and efficient software and cloud solutions appeal to you? If you answered yes, then this may be the job for you!

What will you be doing!

  • Designing and developing the software and cloud architecture for the organization's IT systems, ensuring scalability, security, and performance, while maintaining alignment with the organization's business goals and IT strategy.
  • Contributing to the development and maintenance of the IT enterprise architecture strategy and roadmap.
  • Defining software architecture standards, guidelines, and best practices to ensure consistency and maintainability across the organization.
  • Ensuring compliance with security and regulatory standards in software and cloud architecture design and implementation.
  • Conducting regular assessments of the organization's IT architecture, identifying gaps, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Evaluating and selecting software technologies and frameworks, including programming languages, development platforms, and database systems, based on business requirements and industry trends.
  • Staying updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices related to software development methodologies, cloud architecture, and DevOps practices.
  • Conducting research and performing proof-of-concepts to identify and evaluate new software and cloud technologies, solutions, and vendors.
  • Defining and documenting software and cloud infrastructure configurations, specifications, and deployment processes.
  • Developing and maintaining strong vendor relationships to leverage external expertise and innovative technologies as needed.
  • Collaborating with hardware architects, network analysts, infrastructure analysts, security analysts, and software developers to ensure that the software and cloud infrastructure aligns with the organization's hardware capabilities and network requirements.
  • Assessing and recommending cloud service providers and platforms, considering factors such as reliability, scalability, security, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Performing capacity planning and making recommendations for software and cloud resource allocation to meet future growth and performance requirements.
  • Providing technical guidance and support to software development teams and stakeholders during software design, development, and deployment activities.
  • Planning, executing, and managing the integration of new applications into existing systems and software throughout the enterprise.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into technical software and cloud solutions.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

  • Education
    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. A master's degree is preferred.
    • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., Zachman Enterprise Architect Certification, TOGAF Certification, Axelos ITIL Master Certification, Open Group Certified Architect, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified Azure Solutions Architect, etc.) are a plus.
  • Experience
    • Minimum of 10 years experience in an Information Technology role.
    • Proven experience as an IT software and cloud architect or a similar role, designing and implementing software and cloud solutions in complex IT environments.
    • Experience with DevOps practices, continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) pipelines, and configuration management tools.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance strategic thinking with attention to detail.
    • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
    • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
    • In-depth knowledge of IT architecture frameworks, methodologies, and best practices, such as TOGAF, Zachman, or similar frameworks.
    • In-depth knowledge of software architecture principles, programming languages, development frameworks, and database systems.
    • Strong understanding of business processes, systems integration, and emerging technologies, including cloud computing, APIs, microservices, and digital platforms.
    • Strong understanding of cloud computing technologies, such as Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS).
    • Proficiency in cloud infrastructure management and orchestration tools, such as Microsoft M365, Microsoft Azure, and Oracle OCI.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Level 2 Secret which has a minimum requirement of 7 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and/or the United Kingdom.
