Position Overview
The Vice President, Supply Chain is a strategic enterprise leader responsible for end‑to‑end supply chain operations across Boardwalk, including procurement, warehousing, logistics, inventory management, and supplier performance governance. This role shapes and executes a unified supply chain strategy that enhances operational reliability, reduces total cost of ownership, supports ESG objectives, strengthens vendor partnerships, and drives long‑term value for Associates, Resident Members, and stakeholders. The VP, Supply Chain leads major technology, process, and organizational transformations to mature Boardwalk’s supply chain capabilities and ensure alignment with corporate strategy.
Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and execute a national supply chain strategy that integrates procurement, warehousing, logistics, and site operations into a cohesive function.
- Lead long‑term transformation initiatives—including digital modernization, data transparency, and process standardization to enhance efficiency, resilience, and scalability.
- Establish and oversee enterprise‑wide KPIs, dashboards, and governance frameworks (e.g., vendor performance metrics, warehouse standards, spend reporting).
- Partner with Executive Leadership, Finance, IT, Operations, Legal, and ESG to deliver annual productivity, working capital improvements, and total cost‑of‑ownership reductions.
- Drive strategic business cases (e.g., Distribution Centers, technology implementations, major contract restructures, elevator modernization ROI analyses).
Procurement & Contract Management
- Oversee sourcing strategies, competitive bidding, category management, contract negotiation and lifecycle contract governance across multi‑million‑dollar spend portfolios.
- Strengthen procurement policies, controls, and supplier compliance through standardized processes and the Supplier Code of Conduct.
- Lead major vendor negotiations, renewals, and restructures (e.g., elevators, submetering, laundry, waste management).
- Implement risk management practices, supply continuity planning, and structured supplier performance reviews.
- Support integration of procurement requirements into property acquisitions/dispositions, including contract assumption assessments.
Warehousing, Inventory & Distribution
- Provide national leadership for warehouse operations, including the modernization of systems, scanning technology, layout design, safety standards, and performance KPIs.
- Oversee inventory management strategy, including min/max program design, cycle counts, aged‑inventory reduction, and forecasting analytics.
- Lead development and governance of national warehouse best practices, including training, onboarding, and cross‑region performance alignment.
- Oversee logistics strategies for inter‑regional transfers, transportation optimization, and support for capital/materials distribution.
Digital Modernization & Analytics
- Champion digital transformation across the supply chain, including ERP enhancements, WMS technologies, automation, mobile tools, and reporting dashboards.
- Partner closely with IT to introduce user‑friendly tools that improve efficiency, data accuracy, and decision‑making.
- Introduce analytics capabilities to measure vendor performance, associate productivity, cost‑to‑serve, inventory accuracy, and spend optimization.
Team Leadership
- Lead and develop a high‑performing national supply chain team across Procurement, Warehousing, Logistics, Contract Management, and Inventory/Systems support.
- Mentor leaders and emerging talent, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, customer service, and continuous improvement.
- Structure and scale the organization to support growth, ESG expectations, and evolving operational needs.
ESG & Sustainability
- Lead sustainable procurement initiatives aligned with Boardwalk’s ESG strategy.
- Collaborate with Sustainability and Operations to expand environmentally preferred products and vendor practices.
- Support Boardwalk’s GRESB reporting, ESG targets, and responsible sourcing program.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field; SCMP or CPSM designation strongly preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in procurement, supply chain, or operational transformation roles.
- Proven ability to build and lead national, multi‑disciplinary teams.
- Expertise in procurement, warehousing, and logistics operations.
- Experience leading large‑scale system modernization and process redesign initiatives.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated success in strategic sourcing, long‑term negotiations, contract lifecycle management, and enterprise vendor governance.
- Extensive experience with ERP environments, planning systems, and digital transformation programs.
- Strong financial and analytical skills, with the ability to build ROI models, business cases, and executive‑level reporting.
- Adept at standardizing processes, implementing performance metrics, and aligning multiple regions under unified best practices.
- Skilled in change leadership—capable of influencing, communicating, and driving adoption across diverse stakeholder groups.
- Strong understanding of ESG principles, sustainable procurement practices, and their integration into supply chain decisions.
