The Accounting Assistant plays a key role in supporting the Finance Team, taking on a variety of tasks across all areas of the department. In this dynamic position, you'll be hands-on with general accounting duties, focusing on precise data entry. 1. Bank deposits: Operating and Trust accounts, applying payments to client files including cheques, e-transfers, EFTs, wires, payments from premium finance companies & bill payments.
2. Preparing cheques for deposit including: sorting mail, looking up client for appropriate coding, ensuring there is a balance to be paid, or getting clarification if there is not.
3. Investigating and resolving unidentified payments received.
4. Tracking the status of expected payments from premium finance companies, transferring client balances from the client to the premium finance company once payment confirmed.
5. Direct bill commission deposits and retrieving direct bill commission statement from carrier portals.
6. With direction from the finance leadership team, complete accounts receivable write-offs and debit to credit applications.
7. Other duties and projects as required.

1. Diploma or Certificate in Accounting.
2. Bookkeeping, Accounts Receivables & Account Payables experience considered an asset.
3. Minimum 2 years’ of accounting experience preferred.
4. Knowledge of accepted accounting principles.
5. High attention to detail and organizational skills.
6. The ability to keep sensitive information confidential.
7. Must be approachable and helpful.
