POSITION SUMMARY

CSIO is seeking a dynamic and strategic Senior Manager, Health Performance to lead our health team and shape initiatives that optimize athlete health and maximize their chances of Olympic and Paralympic success.

This role provides strategic and operational leadership to CSIO’s health professionals—including medical, therapy, nutrition, and psychology—while overseeing treatment and recovery facilities, health partnerships, and programs. Working closely with the Chief Medical Officer, the Senior Manager will position CSIO as a leader in high performance sport health and medicine through the development of best-practice protocols, standards of care, and meaningful contributions to industry initiatives.

As a member of the Senior Management Team, you will bring critical thinking and thought leadership to advance CSIO’s strategic priorities and foster a high-performing, people-first culture.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy and Senior Management Team
  • Develop and maintain an effective working relationship with the CEO and other Senior Management Team members contributing to the strategic direction of CSIO, as well as a driver of CSIO’s uber Key Performance Indicators.
  • Assist the Senior Director in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of a Sport Science operational plan for the organization, in alignment with the CSIO strategic plan.
  • Report upon departmental activities and strategic objectives.
  • Maintain awareness of the latest sport science developments through seminars, courses and self- directed study.
  • Actively work with performance partners (including but not limited to; National Sport Organizations, Own the Podium, the Canadian Olympic & Paralympic Sport Institute Network, Canadian Olympic Committee & Canadian Paralympic Committees), remaining up to date on activities and initiatives that may benefit CSIO practitioners
  • Help to meet division financial goals without sacrificing staff satisfaction.
  • Responsible for the management of financial and operational activities within the Health Performance Department ensuring budgets and operational guidelines, policies and procedures are adhered to
  • Work in a manner that preserves confidentiality and seeks to minimize risk.
  • Identify and develop partnerships with health and rehabilitation institutions and service providers, researchers and/or industry representatives
  • Work collaboratively to develop and deliver the revenue generation strategy for the organization while maintaining the integrity of a high-performance sport environment.
Performance Health Leadership and Management
  • Responsible for hiring, developing, and supervising an interdisciplinary and integrated team of health services staff and contractors
  • Work with individual team members and technical experts to identify and guide individual training and development in a professional and respectful manner
  • Oversee performance evaluations, 360-degree reviews and professional development plans of direct reports.
  • Ensure that technical guidance, leadership and mentoring is provided for CSIO health practitioners, students, and interns.
  • Work collaboratively to develop and/or implement group education and training, targeting opportunities to develop multidisciplinary skill sets and interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Lead multiple cross-functional teams and/or projects centred around athlete health and wellbeing, such as injury and illness surveillance, athlete intake, return to health and performance, RED-s, female athlete development, etc.
  • Oversee the delivery of the athlete intake process, ensuring providers are in place to address mental health, nutritional, and physical flags and issues are triaged appropriately
  • Support the implementation of an integrated practitioner model that ensures practitioners are delivering support across a breadth of sports based on acute and chronic needs.
  • Work with the Senior Director to shape the overall direction and operation of the Sport Performance Division.
  • Establish program measurements that support the accomplishment of the company’s strategic goals.
  • Support a high performing people-first culture.
  • Ensure team members are performing their duties in alignment with CSIO’s mission, vision and values.
  • Empower the team via mentorship and education, ensuring they feel they are well equipped with the resources and skills to best support their athletes as well as continue to develop professionally.
  • Ensure team members remain at the forefront of relevant research, innovation, and applied methods as it pertains to the strength and conditioning environment.
  • Understand and adhere to provincial and federal laws and ethics around data management and data privacy, especially as it relates to health data.
Facilities and Equipment
  • Oversee onboarding and education of health practitioners working in CSIO training environments to ensure that all CSIO policies and best practice guidelines for techniques and equipment are followed
  • Work with practitioners to ensure the processes of obtaining athlete consent and pre-participation screening are completed before service delivery commences
  • Oversee the management of CSIO health and medical facilities and equipment, ensuring maintenance plans are in place for key equipment, maintaining and placing purchase orders for equipment and supplies, all while being mindful to order within the parameters of the annual budget.
  • Ensure alignment and best practices are shared across all CSIO facilities.
  • Ensure that CSIO facilities provide an inclusive, safe and effective daily training environment.
  • Implement risk control measures and provide ongoing monitoring and evaluation of risk measures.
  • Ensure equipment maintenance is performed in a timely manner.
  • Regularly audit equipment and software and make recommendations to adapt to an evolving high-performance landscape.
  • Work with the Senior Director and CMO to implement protocols and policies that ensure a safe and effective performance environment for athletes and staff
  • Support revenue generating initiatives while maintaining the integrity of the CSIO training environments.
  • Develop a business relationship with the sport medicine clinic located at TPASC to provide enhanced services for athletes, and an opportunity for revenue generation with their clients.
Company Engagement and Organizational Health
  • Where appropriate, provide health services to targeted athletes and sports.
  • Maintain an accurate record of work conducted.
  • Adhere to any professional codes of conduct appropriate to the profession or other codes of conduct that might be deemed applicable to sports science and sports medicine practitioners in general.
  • Ensure the Health Performance department is acting within the scope of the any governing policies, laws, rules and regulations that apply to the CSIO.
  • Actively contribute to Sport Scientist Canada initiatives and represent CSIO on external committees or working groups where appropriate.
  • Be an active member of CSIO by participating in and/or presenting at staff meetings, committees, other meetings and seminars as required.
  • Maintain a proactive approach to personal Professional Development and actively participate in CSIO professional development programs and processes
  • Ensure the Senior Director is informed of key issues involving Health Services as well as the organization as a whole.
  • Lead and/or contribute to the development, planning and/or execution of company initiatives that will help ensure the long-term financial sustainability of CSIO.
  • Support the organization’s Purpose, Mission and Vision and demonstrate organizational Values through everyday behaviours.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Degree in a health service discipline or related field (graduate degree preferred).
  • 10+ years’ experience working in high performance sport environments, including experience in a management role.
  • Training and experience in leadership, successfully leading teams to achieve strategic objectives and to drive growth and innovation.
  • Strong knowledge and/or academic training across multiple health disciplines.
  • Competence working with sport information databases, electronic health and medical records.
  • High degree of compassion and self-awareness.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a high degree of independence and initiative.
  • Excellent team building skills and the ability to be flexible and adjust to changing priorities.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills, including the ability to tackle multiple concurrent responsibilities within short timeframes.
  • Service and results orientation with the ability to balance sport needs and goals with those of CSIO.
