A leading educational institution in Vancouver is seeking a Team Manager for Custodial Operations. In this role, you will oversee custodial staff, manage schedules, and ensure cleanliness and safety standards are met across campus premises. You will be responsible for staff training, budget management, and collaborating with campus partners. The ideal candidate should have proven experience in custodial or facilities management and strong leadership skills. This position offers a competitive monthly compensation.
The Compensation Range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary for a position. The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

Performs a wide variety of duties and responsibilities as assigned by Director, Custodial Services to ensure effective use and care of the Campus premises. This position is assigned to day, evening and nightshifts. These shifts cover seven days per week.
Reports to the Director, Custodial Services.
Determines general custodial requirements in consultation with Head Service Workers, Operations Manager, Director and local working committee recommendations.
Assists in partial or full development of daily, weekly and monthly schedules and work assignments to ensure labour costs are effectively managed while ensuring standards for service delivery are met.
Inspects buildings and grounds to ensure departmental cleanliness and maintenance requirements are being met by the custodial services team. Initiates action to improve deficiencies with physical facilities
Ensures that the department s assets are maintained at a high standard; assigns deficiencies to the appropriate personnel for correction. Oversees inspections performed by Head Services Workers and other custodial staff. Investigates and addresses service concerns as required.
Manages Head Service Workers and Utility Workers including recruiting, training, supervising, and performance review and management up to and including termination, in consultation with Facilities Human Resources personnel.
Ensures that employees work in an accurate, safe manner, in accordance with all UBC and WorkSafeBC safety standards, practices and procedures.
Liaises with campus partners and outside contractors regarding renovations, soft preventative and corrective maintenance programs, including but not limited to pest control, , custodial equipment, carpet cleaning, and waste management.
Manages inventory of departmental, supplies, chemicals, tools and equipment. Participates in department and University initiatives, committees, and programs, including but not limited to Return to Work Attendance Management programs and various committees as fitting the needs of the position.
Ensures procedures are established and followed to maintain the security of all Building Services master keys and/or individual keys used for equipment, storage, and access to rooms and buildings.
Researches and compiles information on products, equipment, services, productivity, work methods, etc.; analyzes labor and materials costs; recommends changes, policies and/or procedures to improve efficiency or effectiveness of services.
Recommends maintenance repairs, or renovation projects to the Operations Manager, Custodial Services and the Director, Custodial Services; assists, as required, with project administration.
Handles an annual budget for area of responsibility. Monitors and controls expenses on labour, materials, supplies and equipment to meet established budget requirements.
Leads designated staff by performing duties such as prioritizing and assigning work tasks and inspecting completed work to ensure conformance with established standards.
Responsible for related personnel issues for assigned staff such as performance evaluations, orientation and training. Resolves training needs, coaches employees to meet personal goals and performance targets.
Responsible for providing and ensuring training/onboarding of assigned staff has taken place.
Participates in the Interview/Selection process, and in the management of first step grievances and other labour relations matters including disciplinary action and follow up in accordance with UBC policies and procedures.
