The Learning Skills Coordinator works within the Student Access and Support department to support overall student retention and completion. Collaborating with faculty, Accessibility Coordinator, Counsellors, and other staff, the Learning Skills Coordinator provides individualized and group supports to promote student academic success. Responsibilities include activities in a wide range of areas including; assessing learning needs of students; developing and / or providing teaching and learning opportunities to address those needs; supporting students with specific disabilities; providing exam invigilation which may require reading / scribing in support of students with specific disabilities; implementing and facilitating the peer tutor program (including tutor training); building and delivering in-class workshops related to learning skills, and maintaining accurate records and data management.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Instructs one-on-one, small group and full class on a variety of topics by : Developing curriculum specific to the needs of individual students or groups; Instructing in subjects such as study strategies, time management and goal setting, decoding, reading comprehension, note-taking, test-taking and memorization techniques, stress management and test anxiety; Promoting, designing and delivering workshops on specific subject matter to programs and student groups as needed.
• Supports students at risk by : Liaising with students, Instructors, Counsellors, Accessibility Coordinators and other relevant agencies to develop support materials, strategies and action plans; Implementing accommodations for students with disabilities and supporting invigilation of tests including reading and scribing service on an as needed basis. Maintaining a student-centered approach in designing and delivering individualized study supports.
• Coordinates and delivers the Peer Tutor Program by : Recruiting and hiring peer tutors; Established supervisory duties for peer tutor program, (applications, time sheets, evaluation forms, tutor logs); Training tutors; Pairing tutors and students; Supporting conflict resolution between tutors and students; Providing ongoing supervision and support for tutors; and Facilitating evaluation of tutor performance.
• Provides resources for students and instructors by : Providing books, handouts, videos, web-sites, computer-assisted instructional programs.
• Maintains records and manages data related to student contact.
• Provides invigilation by : Liaising with faculty and / or program coordinators to establish testing and exam schedules for students with accommodations; Liaising with instructors and Accessibility Services about testing accommodations; Invigilating exams when needed.
• Promotes a respectful and supportive learning environment based on the principles of inclusion, equity and diversity Maintains positive relationships with colleagues and other members of the College staff by : Developing positive relationships with College faculty, staff and other professionals; Being a positive and active participant in the Department’s responsibilities; Providing support and cooperative assistance to fellow professionals and College staff; and Acting with professionalism and integrity at all times.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

This is a short-term, part-time (20%) position, commencing August 18, 2025, and ending June 30, 2026 . Salary and benefits are in accordance with the applicable Collective Agreement and are based on qualifications and experience.
