Ministry of Transportation and Transit

Scientific/Technical Officer 21R Radio and Telecommunications Technologist

The Team

The Radio and Telecommunications team is a small, dedicated group of five Radio Technologists who maintain the Ministry’s critical radio communications infrastructure across B.C. This established team works collaboratively in pairs to service 188 mountain-top repeater sites, ensuring reliable communication networks that support highway maintenance and public safety. We value diversity, inclusion, and teamwork, and you’ll have opportunities to work with a range of partners, including highway maintenance contractors, Ministry staff, and BC Ambulance, while contributing to work that truly makes a difference.

The Role

As a Radio and Communications Technologist, you’ll be responsible for installing, testing, repairing, and maintaining radio and telecommunications systems that keep the Ministry’s operations connected and safe. Your work ensures reliable communication for highway safety and emergency response, directly impacting the well-being of workers and the public. This is a unique opportunity to join a collaborative team, tackle technical challenges in diverse environments—from urban centers to remote mountain sites—and help maintain critical infrastructure that supports safety across the province.
