General Accountabilities:

Support the Sr. Manager, Station Engineering (Electrical) , in implementing the department's goals, objectives and strategies by providing effective team leadership to a team of Project Engineers/Officers, Resource Planners and Supporting Staff.

You will be responsible for the following:

• Implement engineering goals/objectives/strategies by providing effective team leadership and direction to a team which consists of electrical Engineers, Resource Planners and external engineering consulting firms.
• Plan, organize, schedule and coordinate engineering projects closely with Electrical engineering, Construction and Project Management. Assign tasks to Engineers, provide instructions as required to ensure successful delivery of engineering design packages of Transmission projects.
• Support project management by providing consolidated information on engineering design packages, status, forecasted labour requirements and actual deployment level.
• Prepare and monitor production engineering costs / schedules (ECDs) of engineering projects.

Specific Accountabilities:

Within context provided by the Manager, station Engineering (i.e., corporate strategies and policies, accountabilities, tasks, budget and programs, compliance and performance targets, expectations for continuous improvement and etc.), provide the following:

• Manage the work of the EA (Electrical arrangement) Engineering team. Organize, plan, schedule, direct and coordinate work, assign tasks and monitor the progress of work to conform to schedules.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of project execution plans, through various means (capability assessments, quality control, etc.) and recommend changes to enhance performance.
• Working on Standards and Technology Development plans to standardize design for Transmission projects and stations upgrade.
• Manage QAQC process to the external engineering consulting firms to deliver engineering packages standards design, and meeting Hydro One engineering quality.
• Perform day-to-day supervision, work assignment, monitoring and quality assurance of staff supervised.
• Be responsible for the work of staff assigned to specific projects and giving guidance/direction as necessary, in a working environment which has the philosophy and goals of continuous quality improvement.
• Work in collaboration with project engineering and project managers, review project work scope, and communicate engineering requirements to the design team and to the appropriate staff in other departments.
• Monitor work status of each Transmission projects under production, provide analysis of progress and issues and provide feedback to the Engineering Managers, Project Managers and others.
• Monitor utilization of internal design resources and supporting external consulting services.
• Find ways and means to improve efficiency of Transmission project production design process.
• Perform other duties as required.

Manage the unit and achieve the approved programs and targeted results through:

• Ensure subordinates are able and willing to produce the desired output, and to continually improve the processes for achieving the outputs.
• Assess staff capability to do the required work, now and in the future.
• Conduct personal effectiveness reviews of team members as required.

Accountability for the outputs of others:

• Know and ensure own and team members’ compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements, and all corporate policies and procedures, and generally accepted practices relating to the work of the unit.
• Establish a two-way working relationship with subordinates to solicit their views on conditions and potential changes effecting their work, and continuous improvement opportunities.

Selection Criteria:

• Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario preferred but not essential.
• A four-year engineering/engineering sciences university program (Electrical) or the equivalent practical experience.
• 15 years - Experience in management and motivating engineering and other professional staff.
• Knowledge of project management principles, tendering and contract management.
• Good knowledge of engineering processes for project execution.
• Good knowledge of the Hydro One operational requirement.
• Good knowledge of business fundamentals and economics.
• Excellent customer services to external customers
• Excellent communication skills
• An excellent team leader and team builder
