Job description
Overview

The Heather Cutler Foundation is a federally incorporated non-profit organization based in Mount Pearl, Newfoundland and Labrador. Founded by Heather’s family after experiencing firsthand the challenges of navigating pancreatic cancer care, the Foundation is driven by a commitment to real change rather than bureaucracy. The leadership includes advocates and professionals with deep ties to their community and a passion for healthcare reform.

Values
  • Equity — We believe that access to life-saving care should not be determined by geography or postal code. Our work focuses on closing the gaps in Canada’s healthcare system, especially for those in smaller provinces and rural areas.
  • Action — We are proactive, mobilizing public support, calling on government leaders, and pushing for policy changes that directly impact pancreatic cancer patients.
  • Empowerment — We equip patients and families with the knowledge, resources, and self-advocacy tools needed to navigate complex healthcare systems.
  • Community — We foster a supportive network, sharing lessons learned and practical tips to help others facing similar challenges.
  • Transparency and Compassion — Inspired by Heather’s legacy as a nurse and caregiver, we prioritize clear communication, empathy, and genuine support for those affected by pancreatic cancer.
Whom We Serve
  • Canadians diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, especially those in underserved regions.
  • Families and caregivers navigating the complexities of treatment and support.
  • Healthcare professionals and advocates seeking to improve outcomes and close systemic gaps.
What We Do
  • Provide up-to-date, accessible information on pancreatic cancer, treatment options, and clinical trials.
  • Advocate for healthcare reform, including better access to somatic testing and clinical trials.
  • Offer practical resources and support to reduce delays and improve patient outcomes.
  • Mobilize community action through campaigns, petitions, and public awareness initiatives.
  • Develop educational materials and launch programs like podcasts and starter packs to inform and empower the pancreatic cancer community.
  • Engage in fundraising to support research and patient services, and collaborate with national and international partners, including the World Pancreatic Cancer Coalition.
Get Involved

Volunteers, guest authors, and partners are welcomed to join the Foundation’s efforts—whether through direct service, campaign support, or sharing personal experiences to inspire and inform others.

Design for Impact — Volunteer Graphic Designer

The Heather Cutler Foundation is looking for a Volunteer Graphic Designer to help bring our advocacy to life through meaningful, accessible, and eye-catching visuals. Whether it’s social media posts, downloadable resources, or designs for merch and public campaigns, your work will directly support awareness, education, and healthcare reform across Canada.

This is a unique opportunity to design with purpose and join a creative team that believes every graphic can help tell a story, shift a mindset, or inspire action. Join Team Heather and help transform pancreatic cancer awareness into visual advocacy that resonates.

Why Join Us?

The Heather Cutler Foundation was founded after Heather’s journey exposed the gaps in Canada’s healthcare system. Today, we continue that mission with urgency—and visuals play a central role in how we connect, educate, and advocate. As our Graphic Designer, you won’t just make things “look good”—you’ll help people see what’s really happening and imagine what’s possible. From storytelling to system change, design is advocacy.

Responsibilities
  • Social Media Graphics — Design visual assets for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and emerging platforms. Adapt content for carousels, reels, stories, and quote cards while maintaining a consistent brand identity.
  • Educational Materials — Design visual resources such as one-pagers, infographics, presentation slides, or reports to explain complex healthcare issues in a visually accessible way.
  • Campaign Collateral — Support branded visuals for events (banners, posters, pins), advocacy campaigns, and downloadable PDFs (e.g., molecular profiling explainer sheets).
  • Website & Blog Graphics — Provide illustrations or header visuals for web content hosted on Ghost CMS and help ensure visual consistency across pages.
  • Merch & Print Design (Optional) — Contribute to apparel, water bottles, or poster designs that support fundraising and reflect our aesthetic values.
Qualifications
  • Design Experience — Proficiency with Canva, Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator), Figma, or similar tools. Portfolio or samples required.
  • Brand Consistency — Able to work within an established visual identity while contributing fresh ideas.
  • Accessibility-Minded — Designs are inclusive, legible, and optimized for all users (e.g., colour contrast, readable fonts, image descriptions).
  • Story-Driven Design — Understanding of how visuals support storytelling, particularly in healthcare, advocacy, or emotional subjects.
  • Self-Directed & Reliable — Able to manage design requests on a schedule, respond to team feedback, and collaborate remotely.
  • Mission-Aligned — Passion for using design to support awareness, health equity, and real-world impact.
Role Details
  • Location — Remote (Canada-based preferred)
  • Time Commitment — ~3–5 hours/week, flexible
  • Employment Type — Volunteer
  • Start Date — As soon as possible
  • Duration — 3-month minimum preferred (ongoing projects available)
  • Supervised by — Creative Director & Founder
