Working closely with the Senior Operations Director, wider operations and event teams, you will be responsible for leading the organisation and management of a flagship Energy Exhibition and Conference and other Energy shows and conference projects within the energy portfolio at dmg events, from conception through to completion.

Working with internal and external stakeholders and suppliers to deliver operational excellence, on time and within budget and with a good ROI.

Manage and ensure delivery and continuous improvement of dmg energy best practice throughout the operations team, to support the show teams across the DMG shows.

Managing a team of Operations Managers and Supervisors to work efficiently and effectively on a range of events throughout the year.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Team Management and Development
2. Builds, leads, manages, motivates and develops the Operations Team, including internal and external training and personal development.
3. Sets objectives, conducts annual appraisals, and establishes KPIs for direct reports and team members.
4. Conducts weekly 1-2-1 meetings to manage workload and track activity and progress.
5. Ensures effective resourcing and allocation of roles & responsibilities for operational resources to guarantee successful event delivery.

Strategic Planning

1. Collaborates with management to develop and implement the business plan and long-term strategy for the dmg events portfolio.
2. Communicates effectively with the VP, SVP, Senior Operations Director, and Event Teams to meet objectives.
3. Shares knowledge and best practices within the wider dmg events offices and operations teams.
4. Implements systems and processes to improve efficiencies and ensure best practices are followed.
5. Leads the tendering and appointment process for suppliers and venues, with approval from the Senior Operations Director.
6. Conducts feasibility studies for current and future flagship event locations, identifying risks.
7. Performs site visits to ensure venues are fit for purpose.
8. Analyzes post-show operations to recommend improvements for future events.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS:

• Minimum 6 years experience working on large-scale exhibitions.
• Knowledge of small to large-scale operations and Health & Safety best practices.
• Experience managing event budgets, including cost control, negotiations, and ensuring profitability.
• Strong negotiating and contract management skills.
• Ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders and venues for seamless event delivery.
• Ability to work calmly under pressure in a fast-paced, agile environment.
• Team player with previous management experience and team-building skills.
• Organized, methodical, with high attention to detail.
• Capable of multitasking across multiple projects.
• Proactive, responsible, with good communication skills, capable of engaging with senior leadership.
• Proficient in MS Office Suite and project management software like Monday.com.
• Certifications: IOSH / NEBOSH; knowledge of AutoCAD is advantageous.
