Storeman / Stock Controller required for a well-established Client who supplies, designs and manufactures equipment for packaging, filling and processing to companies across a wide range of industries. The candidate will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the warehouse, including receiving, storing, issuing and dispatching goods. The role is based in Wadeville, Germiston.
Key Responsibilities :
Stores and Inventory Management
- Organize and maintain a logical and structured store layout.
- Arrange spares and inventory according to specific machines or usage.
- Maintain accurate stock records and enter data into inventory management software.
- Conduct monthly stock checks and ensure stock levels match records.
- Report discrepancies, damages, or stock shortages to management.
- Ensure all stock is correctly labelled, stored, and accounted for.
- Keep the store area clean, orderly, and free of clutter daily.
Parts Management
- Issue parts to the shop floor as needed for work in progress.
- Maintain records of issued parts, including the recipient and job details.
- Ensure required parts for work orders are sourced and purchased promptly.
- Prevent parts from being left unattended in the factory—return unused parts to storage within one business day.
Purchasing and Receiving
- Create purchase orders for required parts and equipment.
- Communicate with suppliers to check stock availability and pricing.
- Follow up with suppliers to ensure timely order delivery or collection.
- Verify received goods against purchase orders for accuracy.
- Log received stock into the inventory system.
Driver Route Planning and Logistics
- Regularly follow up with the driver to track delivery and collection progress.
- Plan efficient routes to ensure timely collections and deliveries.
- Confirm stock availability with suppliers before dispatching the driver.
- Provide drivers with a clear schedule in advance to prevent delays.
- Inspect company vehicles upon entry and exit, recording any items transported.
Picking Orders and Dispatch
- Engrave purchased machinery with the company logo and serial number.
- Record serial numbers with corresponding quote or invoice details in the system.
- Ensure picking slips and delivery notes are correctly issued.
- Triple-check that all dispatched machinery includes necessary spares and accessories.
- Coordinate with relevant personnel to prepare orders before delivery or collection.
- Cross-check the customer name, order number, and delivery address against the dispatch documents.
- Ensure the items, quantities, and specifications match the purchase order.
Factory and Warehouse Maintenance
- Help maintain an organized and professional factory layout for client visits.
- Keep the warehouse and factory floor free of spare parts, tools, and waste materials.
Imported Machinery and Parts
- Allocate imported spare parts to designated storage areas upon receipt.
- Log imported machinery into the inventory system.
- Clearly label and categorize import boxes based on machinery type.
- Adjust stock records when imported items are sold or dispatched.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist on the shop floor when required, including assembly, moving, or preparing machinery for dispatch.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and health & safety regulations.
Key Skills and Qualifications
- Previous experience in warehouse, inventory management, or storekeeping preferred.
- Good understanding of stock control and inventory management.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to operate warehouse equipment (e.g., forklifts, pallet jacks) if required.
- Excellent communication skills for coordinating with colleagues and suppliers.
- Basic computer proficiency for inventory management such as supply correct inventory data for capture on quick books inventory control.
- A valid forklift license (if required) is an advantage.
