Job Purpose

The Department of Economic Development and Tourism, Western Cape Government, has an exciting employment opportunity for a suitably qualified and competent individual on a Senior Management Services level to drive strategic coordination, integration, and implementation of the Western Cape economic strategy and strategic plans in WCG, municipalities, businesses, academia, and civil society.

Minimum Requirements

• Relevant B-degree (on NQF level 7) as recognised by SAQA;
• 5 years' middle management experience in an economic development research environment;
• The successful completion of the Senior Management Pre-entry Programme.

Recommendation

• A valid code B drivers' license;
• Additional qualifications / certifications in facilitation, design-thinking, data visualisation, and legal will be considered beneficial.

Key Performance Areas

1. Line Management: Manage, facilitate, and oversee the integration and execution plans of provincial economic delivery of various economic stakeholders to achieve policy objectives.
2. Manage the convening and coordination of the WC economic policy transversally.
3. Drive coordination of the development and implementation of key transversal economic projects and programmes within the economic agenda of the WCG.
4. Oversee the reporting requirements to demonstrate the value of initiatives aligned to the economic policy.
5. Provide critical collaboration and oversight support to policy delivery teams.
6. Manage and foster intra- and intergovernmental relations internally and externally with economic stakeholders partners.

Strategic Management: Define and review on a continual basis the purpose, objectives, priorities, and activities of the Directorate. Drive strategic planning, develop, and manage strategic and business plans, evaluate performance, ensure compliance, foster innovation, and perform all duties diligently.

People Management: Participate in recruitment, motivate, train, guide, evaluate, and promote a positive work environment, manage performance and discipline, and involve in workforce planning and development.

Financial Management: Manage budgeting, ensure proper expenditure, procurement, contract management, asset management, risk management, and accurate record-keeping, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.

Knowledge: Proven knowledge and working experience with legislation, policies, information systems, programme management, procurement, policy development, governance, public service procedures, political, economic, and social affairs, constitutional and legal frameworks, public finance, human resources, and related areas.

Remuneration: All-inclusive salary package of R 1,000,000.00 per annum (Salary level 13), comprising a basic salary (70%) and employer's pension contribution. The remainder may be structured according to personal needs.
