Job summary
A leading sports betting platform in Johannesburg is seeking a Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to oversee their Group Technology function. The ideal candidate will have 7-10 years of tech experience, strong leadership abilities, and a deep understanding of the sports betting industry. This role requires an active leader to communicate strategy and deliver technology that adds value to customers.
Qualifications
- 7-10 years of experience in a tech role, with 3+ years in senior management.
- Solid track record of delivery with multiple development streams.
- In-depth understanding of the Sports Betting industry.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the management and direction of the Group Technology function.
- Ensure alignment of technical delivery and operations with business strategy.
- Manage and mentor senior technical leaders.

- Responsible for the oversight, management and direction of the Group Technology function
- Ensuring the strategic aims of the Group are fulfilled and that the strategic vision of the Board is communicated and understood
- Involved in all areas of business strategy and responsible for the ongoing alignment of technical delivery and operations
- Consistently and frequently delivering new features that add demonstrable value for customers and respond to their needs
- Overall ownership of and accountability for system architecture, team processes and delivery of technical solutions
- Collaborating with the Senior Management team to help define and deliver on short term goals and longer-term roadmap
- Communicating technology strategy and their roadmap to stakeholders
- Structuring and managing technology teams
- Managing and mentoring our next generation of senior technical leaders
- Advising on technological options available to address business problems, providing timely advice on the feasibility
- Ensuring that the impact of internal tools and external features is always measurable
- At least 7-10 years’ experience in a tech role, and 3+ years in senior management or leadership role
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or related field
- A solid track record of delivery with multiple development streams
- In depth understanding of the Sports Betting industry
- Strong technical software development pedigree
- Gaming industry experience highly advantageous
- Successful track record of managing large technology teams
- Active, hands-on leader, able to both define strategy and engage others at all levels in operational delivery
- Passion for mentorship and developing individuals through feedback and coaching
- Excellent communicator, able to be the translation layer between the technology function and the senior management team, in both directions
