The Tax Manageris responsible formanaging and overseeing all tax matters relating to Malaysian subsidiaries, ensuring full compliance with Malaysian tax laws and regulations. The role also acts as a coordination point with overseas finance teams on group tax matters, without direct responsibility for foreign tax compliance.
Malaysia Tax Compliance & Governance
- Corporate Income Tax
- Indirect Taxes (SST)
- Withholding Tax (WHT)
- Transfer Pricing (TP)
- E-Invoicing and digital tax compliance
- Ensure timely, accurate, and compliant tax filings, submissions, and payments in accordance with Malaysian tax regulations.
- Maintain proper tax controls, documentation, and audit trails for Malaysian subsidiaries.
Transfer Pricing & Consultant Management
- Act as the primary liaison with tax consultants for:
- Transfer Pricing documentation and benchmarking
- Statutory filings and tax submissions
- Technical tax opinions and advisory support
- Support intercompany transaction structuring involving Malaysian entities to ensure TP compliance.
Tax Audits & Business Support (Malaysia-Focused)
- Lead and manage tax audits, investigations, and queries by Malaysian tax authorities.
- Provide tax support for business initiatives and projects in Malaysia, including ad-hoc tax assessments and risk evaluations.
Advisory & Stakeholder Management
- Advise internal stakeholders (Finance, Legal, Business Units) on:
- Tax implications of contracts, pricing, and business structures
- Changes in Malaysian tax laws, regulations, and compliance processes
- Communicate and implement tax regulatory updates affecting Malaysian operations.
- Act as the key contact for external stakeholders including tax authorities, auditors, and tax advisors.
Overseas Coordination (Liaison Role)
- Coordinate and liaise with overseas finance teams on cross-border transactions involving Malaysian entities.
- Information requests from group or auditors.
- Provide Malaysia tax input to support overseas teams where required (without owning foreign tax compliance).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or related field
- Professional qualifications such as ACCA, CPA, CTA, or equivalent preferred
Experience
- Minimum 7–10 years of Malaysia-focused tax experience
- Strong hands-on exposure to:
- Malaysian corporate tax & SST
- Withholding tax
- Transfer pricing documentation
- Tax audits and LHDN engagements
- Experience working with Big 4 or tax advisory firms and/or in-house tax roles is an advantage
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of Malaysian tax legislation and practice
- Ability to manage consultants and multiple deadlines
- Good commercial judgment with a business-partnering mindset
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
