Supplier Engineer – Position Summary
Preferred candidate: process‑engineering experience on the manufacturing floor, strong learning and problem‑solving capability, agility, and systemic thinking & approach.
Key Responsibilities
- Provides leadership and manages overall supplier manufacturing and operational issues across the supplier base, ensuring process controls are established and adhered to throughout the supplier’s entire manufacturing process.
- Engages early in product development, providing drawing/design input and conducting first builds with the supplier to establish quality products upfront.
- Manages customer and factory escalations by driving supplier corrective action reports and presenting to business unit executives.
- Evaluates technical requirements of new and existing products, recommends materials to Design Engineering to result in savings, lead‑time reductions, system improvements, increased life and/or risk mitigation.
- Collaborates with New Product Development and New Product Introduction teams to ensure integrity and clarity of engineering drawing requirements and promotes design for manufacturability.
- Participates continuously in the Supplier Selection Process to develop a supply base that delivers competitive advantage in quality, value/cost, delivery and technology.
- Leads the supplier technical audit process, evaluates supplier performance and capability, and drives continuous improvement opportunities at supplier sites. Trains other supplier engineers on audit and evaluation processes.
- Leads quality problem resolution and incident management, drives root‑cause analysis and corrective action, and identifies broad‑based systemic supplier resolutions at the process level.
- Assists in cost planning by monitoring key cost drivers, supply markets, to ensure a competitive advantage.
Functional Knowledge
- Depth and breadth of expertise in specialized discipline or field.
- Design for manufacturability knowledge.
- Knowledge of metrology and measuring equipment.
- Understanding of a factory’s methods and processes: material control, inspection/QC, cleaning, 5S, tool crib, tool life management, detailing, packaging.

- Interprets internal/external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes or services.

- May lead functional teams or projects with moderate resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity.
- Leads project teams with resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity to achieve milestones and objectives.

- Familiar with Lean production or Kaizen improvement.
- Leads supplier process and quality improvement initiatives.
- Familiar with analytic methodology.

Experience and Education
- 8+ years of relevant work experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in mechanical, industrial, materials, chemical, electrical, manufacturing engineering or related discipline.
