Job summary

A leading chemical manufacturer in Johor, Malaysia is seeking a qualified candidate to conduct laboratory testing and formulation for paint and coatings. Responsibilities include collaborating with customers to provide technical solutions, conducting formulation improvements, and developing training for sales personnel. The ideal candidate will have a degree in Chemistry or a related science discipline with 5 to 8 years of laboratory experience in the paint and coatings industry. This role requires communication skills in both English and Bahasa Malaysia.

Qualifications

• 5 to 8 years lab working experience in related industry is required.
• Technical experience in paint and coatings/inks/construction chemicals is necessary.

Job description

Mission Details

• Conduct paint and coating formulation and testing of resin products. Carry out the test as requested and provide the necessary formulation and data to customer to support business development of the products.
• Conduct lab testing and formula improvement for customer.
• Build value-added testing and application development, obtain and carry out evaluation of market competition products which align with sale and marketing strategies.
• Visit customer with technical service manager / sales team to develop and propose technical solutions that meet customers' requirements or resolve customers’ issues in product application and paint formulation.
• Participate customer meeting, liaise with customers on product performance requirements, recommend suitable product to support new business development.
• Conduct product training to sales person, agents and distributors.
• Develop successful relationships with sales partners by provide technical support to agents and distributors in achieve sales objective and getting product approvals from customers.
• Prepare technical tools, i.e. panels to assist promotion of the products.
• Work with sales team / distributors / customers to develop and propose technical solutions that meet customers' requirements or resolve customers’ issues in product application and paint formulation.
• Design and carry out laboratory test to develop products data library, guide formulation of the products (inclusive of products from other Arkema production sites.
• Attend and handle application related complaints for coating resins, proposed solutions to resolve problem which meet the needs and satisfaction of the customer.

• Develop procedure, test requirement, product specification and testing methods for related paint/construction product application.
• Plan, organize and carry out activity as per AIMS and company HSEQ policy requirement. Perform Risk Assessment of application lab operations when necessary, under the guidance of HSE Manager. Ensure lab operation is under all HSE requirements.
• Take reasonable care for health and safety of himself and of other persons, to cooperate with superior, to wear or use personal protective equipment provided as appropriate and to comply health and safety instruction as stipulated under Section 24 OSHA 1994 and undertake the following loss control responsibilities.

• Identify the potential hazards, gains and the possible improvement
• Report the HSEQ near-misses, unsafe acts, and unsafe conditions to superior or HSE personnel.
• Report the HSEQ incident, accidents to superior or HSE personnel.
• Compliant with the policies, legal regulations, Arkema requirements, rules and procedures of one's sector applying to HSEQ.

Required Profile

• Degree in Chemistry or other Science disciplines from a recognized institution with at least 5 to 8 years lab working experience in related industry.
• Technical related work experience paint and coatings/inks/construction chemicals.
• Reasonably good in reading, writing and speaking English and Bahasa Malaysia.
• Good organizational and communication skills.
• Require to travel.
