Patient Assessment and Preparation
- Assess and prepare patients for endoscopic procedures, including obtaining relevant medical history, explaining the procedure, and addressing patient concerns.
- Ensure proper identification and verification of procedure details.
Intra-procedure Assistance
- Assist the endoscopy team in preparing the procedure room, ensuring the availability of necessary equipment and supplies.
- Provide support to the endoscopist during procedures.
- Monitor patients during endoscopic procedures, including vital signs and overall physiological status.
- Collaborate with the anaesthesia team if sedation is administered.
Post-procedure Care
- Provide post-procedure care to patients, monitoring for signs of recovery and addressing any immediate concerns.
- Educate patients on post-procedure care instructions.
Instrument and Equipment Handling
- Handle and pass instruments and supplies to the endoscopist during procedures.
- Operate and maintain specialized endoscopic equipment.
Documentation
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of pre-procedure assessments, intra-procedure care, and post-procedure monitoring.
- Complete documentation in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
Infection Control Practices
- Adhere to strict infection control practices within the endoscopy unit.
- Collaborate with the infection control team to maintain a sterile environment.
Patient and Family Education
- Educate patients and their families on the endoscopic procedure, potential risks, and post-procedure recovery.
- Address patient questions and concerns effectively.
Collaboration with Healthcare Team
- Work closely with endoscopists, anesthesiologists, and other members of the healthcare team to ensure safe and efficient procedures.
- Communicate effectively during handover sessions and team meetings.
Education
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
- Post Basic in Endoscopy.
Requirements
- Registered Nurse (RN) with current licensure in Malaysia.
- Post-basic qualification in endoscopy nursing or a related field.
- Basic life support (BLS) certification is required.
- Strong clinical and critical thinking skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively within the endoscopy team.
- Attention to detail in patient care and documentation.
- Knowledge of endoscopic procedures and equipment.
