Job description
Key Responsibilities

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for leading and executing complex mechanical engineering tasks across the product lifecycle, from new product introduction (NPI) to customer issue resolution (C3), continuous improvement programs (COS/MOL), and part change notification (PCN).

This role requires a high degree of technical competence in mechanical design, testing, problem-solving, and project management.

Design and Documentation

Lead and execute mechanical design and development projects, potentially serving as a technical lead for accessories and energy product design and development.

Create and update product Bill of Materials (BOMs), specifications, and engineering drawings.

Utilize CAD software, such as CREO ELEMENT (formerly PRO/E), for 3D modeling.

Technical Problem Solving

Perform failure root cause analysis for technical issues (e.g., C3 cases, FRB/RFC, Stopships) and effectively use problem-solving tools like 8D, fishbone diagram, and 5 Whys.

Apply DFSS (Design for Six Sigma) tools such as DOE and Tolerance Stacks to optimize designs and resolve complex issues.

Develop new, innovative test methods and specifications corresponding to customer complaints or design needs (e.g., cable extension tests, strain relief bending tests).

Testing and Validation

Develop comprehensive test plans and generate detailed test reports with clear, actionable conclusions.

Support and perform various mechanical robustness and qualification tests, including thermal shock, drop shock, tensile pull tests, and cyclic bending tests.

Support factory/production issues and supplier audit.

Ensure designs meet regulatory requirements, such as ATEX and UL certifications.

Project and Stakeholder Management

Lead and manage various projects, including PCN and COS projects, value-add programs (e.g., EDCR/cost reduction projects), and design enhancements (RFC/FRB).

Support multiple product cost reduction projects as a mechanical engineer.

Communicate with and manage relationships with various suppliers and vendors, often requiring travel to their sites for build support.

Provide technical consultation and guidance to internal (e.g., Electrical Engineers, Product Managers) and external stakeholders.

Be prepared for after-hours meetings or night calls as needed to support global teams.

Basic Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. A Master's degree is a plus.

Minimum of 5-6 years of relevant experience in mechanical design, product development, and validation, preferably in a fast-paced technology or manufacturing environment.

Technical Skills:

Proven expertise in 3D CAD software, with proficiency in CREO ELEMENT (formerly PRO/E), is highly preferred.

Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, materials science, and manufacturing processes (e.g., injection molding, casting, stamping).

Demonstrated ability to perform root cause analysis using structured problem-solving methodologies (e.g., 8D, 5 Whys).

Experience applying DFSS tools such as DOE (Design of Experiments) and Tolerance Stack analysis.

Familiarity with regulatory and compliance standards (e.g., ATEX, UL, IP ratings).

Soft Skills:

Excellent project management skills with the ability to lead and execute multiple projects simultaneously.

Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and stakeholder management.

Ability to travel domestically andinternationally to support suppliers and project builds as required.
