Job summary

A financial services company in Kuala Lumpur is seeking a qualified legal professional to manage commercial agreements, contract lifecycles, and compliance programs. Responsibilities include drafting and negotiating legal documents, overseeing contract renewals, and providing legal advice. Job description
Responsibilities
  • Reviewing, drafting, amending, and negotiating various commercial agreements, Group policies, and legal documents from business units within the Group.
  • Oversee contract management by managing contract lifecycles, including tracking renewals and maintaining accurate records of signed agreements.
  • Assist in the filing and management of intellectual property (IP) worldwide by coordinating with external IP agents for the preparation and submission for trademarks and patents.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership and cross-functional teams (e.g., Marketing, Supply Chain, and Product) to provide legal and compliance advice as needed.
  • Monitor legal and regulatory updates from relevant bodies and proactively advise on emerging requirements impacting the Group.
  • Perform other duties as instructed by Legal & Compliance Manager to support the department’s goals and the company’s broader strategic initiatives.
Compliance
  • Actively assist in the development, implementation, and oversight of group-wide compliance programs, including monitoring and reviewing operations, processes, and documentation within the Group to ensure alignment with Malaysian regulations.
  • Conduct regular audits, risk assessments, and inspections of the Group, identifying compliance gaps, recommending strategic improvements, and implementing mitigation measures.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records on licenses, certificates, insurance policies and other related documentation.
  • Provide administrative and strategic support for compliance tasks, including maintaining compliance logs, leading investigations into potential non-compliance, and ensuring remedial actions are implemented effectively.
Requirements
  • Called to the Malaysian Bar, with at least 3 years post‑qualification experience (PQE) gained in legal practice and/or an in‑house position.
  • Strong knowledge of Malaysian corporate and commercial law, as well as litigation practices.
  • Strong team‑working skills with the ability to negotiate effectively and stay organized.
  • Proactive person who can work independently while fostering collaboration.
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical, reasoning, and legal research skills to develop practical solutions, while effectively partnering with different stakeholders on execution.
  • Meticulous and quick learner with the ability to grasp business concepts efficiently.
