Job description

Overview

We are supporting a leading organisation in the process of migrating a large portfolio of applications and databases to AWS. The central migration team is tasked with providing technical support and data migration expertise for databases transitioning from technologies such as MSSQL, Oracle, Postgres, and Cosmos DB into AWS RDS Postgres. This is a high-impact role requiring collaboration with multiple teams in a fully Agile IT environment. You will support efficient database migration, optimisation, and transformation processes, while enabling teams to update queries, restructure databases, and implement best practices for cloud-based operations.

Nationality and Visa Requirements

This role is open to Malaysian citizens only. No visa sponsorship is available.

Key Responsibilities

• Migration and Technical Leadership: Ensure the use of standard solutions and AWS technologies for all migrations
• Identify and address technical gaps by liaising with internal development teams
• Oversee database migrations, focusing on Postgres transformation where possible
• Build efficient database migration processes across teams
• Database Migration and Transformation: Migrate databases to RDS Postgres primarily from MS SQL and Oracle
• Support seamless migration and testing from on-premises and Azure environments to AWS
• Design and implement production monitoring and alerting in collaboration with internal teams
• Optimise Postgres databases for operation in RDS
• Security and Compliance: Ensure compliance with internal architecture and development standards
• Follow internal control frameworks and best practices
• Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with AWS product lines, application architects, security, and other teams to deliver integrated solutions
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders to align technical and business goals

Key Requirements

• Technical Expertise: Strong experience in database transformation, e.g., from MSSQL to Postgres or Oracle to Postgres
• Proficient with Postgres, MSSQL, and Oracle databases
• Experienced with AWS migration services including DMS, SCT, and DataSync
• Proficient with AWS technologies such as RDS, EC2, EKS, CloudWatch, and IAM
• Skilled in optimising AWS resources for performance, security, and cost-efficiency
• Experience with automated database deployment using Github Actions

Preferred Qualifications

• AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Associate or Professional) or equivalent certification
• Experience with multi-cloud environments, particularly migrations involving Microsoft Azure
• Familiarity with distributed network systems, serverless solutions, and cloud-based security
