A leading property company in Malaysia is seeking a Safety, Health and Environmental Officer for a 3-year contract based in Penang. The ideal candidate will monitor site operations to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and manage environmental performance through regular audits. Key qualifications include a degree in Environmental Science and at least 5 years of relevant experience in construction. This role includes preparing reports and conducting training sessions, contributing to sustainable site practices.
Monitor daily site operations to ensure compliance with Environmental Quality Act 1974, environmental regulations, Department of Environment (DOE) guidelines, and Environmental Management Plan (EMP) requirements as required by the EIA conditions of approval.
Implement and maintain the EMP, ensuring all mitigation measures as prescribed in the EIA/EMP are carried out effectively, including maintaining proper housekeeping practices on site.
Conduct regular site inspections, environmental audits, and monitoring (e.g., air & water quality, noise level) in accordance with DOE requirements to assess environmental performance and report non-compliances.
Identify and evaluate environmental aspects and impacts related to project activities and propose appropriate mitigation measures.
Advise site teams on proper waste management, pollution prevention strategies and resource conservation to ensure sustainable site practices.
Act as the liaison for environmental management with relevant authorities, especially the Department of Environment (DOE), for inspections, permits application, and reporting.
Assist in preparing and submitting environmental reports, such as SPEIA, ESWIS, and other required submissions to DOE.
Organize and conduct environment awareness and compliance training sessions for workers to enhance understanding of environmental requirements
Maintain accurate and up-to-date EMS documentation and records in accordance with ISO standards and IJM procedural requirements.
Liaise with DOE, client, consultants and subcontractors to ensure compliance with legal EIA- related requirements, HSE Management System, client specifications, etc.
Bachelor degree or Diploma in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
Hotel construction experience is a Plus.
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in construction field.
Understanding of Health, Safety and Environment requirements and compliances within the construction industry.
Knowledge in Environmental Quality Act 1974 and other related requirements
