Job summary
A higher education institution in Kuala Lumpur is seeking a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to oversee daily operations and align them with strategic goals. The role demands 10-15 years of senior management experience and expertise in strategic planning, financial management, and operational excellence. This position will lead initiatives ensuring compliance and support innovation within the institution.
Qualifications
- 10-15 years of senior management experience in higher education within a large organization or MNC.
- Proven track record in strategic planning and operational excellence.
- Knowledge of higher education policies and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily academic and administrative operations.
- Implement strategic initiatives to improve efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with higher education regulations.
Skills
Education
The COO oversees the university’s day‑to‑day operations, ensuring efficiency, compliance and excellence across academic and administrative functions. The role provides strategic leadership to align operations with institutional goals.
- Master’s degree in Business Administration, Management, Higher Education Administration or related field (PhD preferred from top tier universities)
- Professional certifications in leadership, finance or operations management (e.g., SPA, CFA, PMP) may be an advantage
- 10‑15 years of senior management experience in higher education within a large organisation or MNC
- Proven track record in strategic planning, financial management, campus operations and resource organisation
- Knowledge of higher education policies, regulations and governance structures (local and international) and experience working with MQA, MOHE, government agencies
- Demonstrated leadership in organisational transformation, digitalisation and operational excellence
- Strong strategic thinking with the ability to align operations with the university’s academic and research mission
- Expertise in budgeting, financial sustainability, and revenue diversification (including partnerships, grants and investments)
- Change management experience, particularly in modernising universities for competitiveness
