The Product Quality Engineer is responsible for monitoring and improving the quality of operational processes and outputs in a manufacturing or engineering environment. This role involves inspecting materials and products, analysing quality data, and ensuring that production meets internal standards and external regulations. PQE also work cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to develop, implement, and maintain quality assurance protocols throughout the product lifecycle.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement product quality standards, inspection protocols, and quality control plans.
- Collaborate with design and manufacturing teams to ensure product specifications and quality requirements are met.
- Analyze production and field data to identify trends, root causes of defects, and areas for improvement.
- Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Participate in new product development (NPD) reviews to ensure quality considerations are integrated early.
- Lead product failure investigations and coordinate with suppliers to resolve quality issues.
- Maintain and improve quality documentation such as FMEAs, control plans, and PPAPs.
- Perform inspection and quality verification of incoming raw materials, in-process, and outgoing inspections on products and components.
- Develop, implement, and maintain quality control procedures and inspection criteria.
- Collaborate with process engineers, production, engineering, and procurement teams to resolve quality issues.
- Resolve quality issues, optimize manufacturing processes, and improve yield.
- Ensure compliance with internal standards or customer‑specific requirements, semiconductor industry standards, and relevant codes, standards, and regulatory requirements (if applicable).
- Interpret technical drawings, specifications, and standards to ensure compliance.
- Identify quality problems, perform root cause analysis, and assist in corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
- Maintain and calibrate inspection tools and equipment.
- Prepare and maintain accurate QC documentation, reports, and records (e.g., inspection reports, non‑conformance reports).
- Participate in internal and external audits (ISO, customer, regulatory).
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce defects and improve process capability.
Authorities
- Authorized to approve or reject raw materials, in-process components, and finished products based on inspection criteria.
- Has the authority to stop production if non‑conformities or critical quality issues are identified.
- Can issue Non‑Conformance Reports (NCRs) and initiate containment actions.
- Has authority to quarantine defective or suspect materials until disposition is decided.
- Authorized to select and apply appropriate inspection and test methods, tools, and sampling plans.
- Can verify the calibration status and suitability of measuring equipment.
- Responsible for verifying and signing off inspection reports, test records, and quality checklists.
- Can request rework or re‑inspection and document the results.
- Has authority to recommend or participate in root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
- May approve corrective actions for minor non‑conformities (based on company policy).
- Can elevate quality issues to the Quality Manager, Engineering, or Production teams.
- Authorized to call for quality review meetings for recurring or critical issues.
- Can sign off on product validation results, quality checkpoints, and first‑article inspections (FAIs) for new or modified processes/products.
- Enforces company and industry quality standards (e.g., ISO, etc.) across departments including engineering, manufacturing, and logistics.
- Can elevate unresolved quality issues to higher management or cross‑functional teams for resolution.
Qualifications
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree. Skillful in English and Mandarin language as required to speak with Mandarin‑speaking clients.
- Minimum 4‑5 years of experience in quality control in semiconductor manufacturing.
- Adept in sampling methodologies (AQL).
- Proficient with inspections and measuring tools (digital microscope, CMM and other inspection techniques).
- Experience in semiconductor industry standards such as Telcordia, Mil‑std, IPC, JEDEC and the like.
Specific Knowledge / Skills
- Strong understanding of quality standards (ISO 9001, 5S, etc.).
- Familiarity with quality tools and methodologies (5 Whys, FMEA, Control Plans, MSA, PPAP, and 8D).
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
- Experience with statistical process control (SPC) and Minitab or similar software.
