The Pharmacist is responsible for ensuring the safe, effective, and lawful supply of medicines while providing professional pharmaceutical care and health advice to customers. This role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, promotes patient safety, and supports the overall operations and performance of the pharmacy.
Key Responsibilities
Dispensing & Pharmaceutical Care
- Dispense prescription and over-the-counter medicines accurately and safely.
- Review prescriptions for appropriateness, dosage, interactions, and contraindications.
- Counsel patients on proper medication use, side effects, storage, and adherence.
- Provide basic health screening, advice, and referral when necessary.
Regulatory & Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with the Pharmacy Act, Poison Act, and MOH guidelines.
- Maintain proper records for controlled medicines and pharmacy documentation.
- Ensure the pharmacy operates in accordance with Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP).
Operations & Inventory
- Manage medicine inventory, including ordering, stock control, and expiry monitoring.
- Ensure proper storage and handling of medicines and medical products.
- Assist in pricing, merchandising, and promotional activities where required.
Customer Service
- Deliver professional, ethical, and patient-centred service at all times.
- Handle customer enquiries, complaints, and feedback effectively.
- Build trust and long-term relationships with customers and healthcare providers.
Team Support
- Supervise and guide pharmacy assistants and support staff.
- Support training and daily operational tasks of the pharmacy team.
- Contribute to a positive, safe, and compliant working environment.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent.
- Fully registered with the Pharmacy Board Malaysia (PBM) with a valid Annual Practising Certificate (APC).
- Able to apply for and hold the pharmacy licence for the shop in accordance with Malaysian regulatory requirements.
- Community or retail pharmacy experience is an advantage.
- Good knowledge of pharmacy laws and regulations in Malaysia.
- Strong communication, customer service, and problem‑solving skills.
- Able to work independently with high integrity and professionalism.
