Job summary

A leading Malaysian bank is seeking a Personal Financial Consultant to actively market and sell core consumer products primarily to walk-in customers. You will execute a consultative selling process, build long-term customer relationships, and manage sales pipelines. The ideal candidate will possess a relevant university degree, excellent networking and communication skills, and preferably experience in banking or sales. You will work full-time in Ipoh, Malaysia, with opportunities to grow in a dynamic team.

Qualifications

  • University Degree (preferably in business or accounting).
  • Banking diploma with 3 years relevant banking experience may be considered.
  • 2–3 years banking/sales and marketing experience is preferable; fresh graduates may be considered.

Job Description

Reports To

Branch Manager (primary) and Segment Manager (other reporting relationship).

Job Purpose

Actively market and sell all core consumer products, primarily to branch walk‑in customers. The Personal Financial Consultant executes a consultative selling process, which involves identifying and recommending CIMB products to meet customers’ financial needs.

Key Responsibilities

Sales Planning

  • Actively identify and pursue sales opportunities by generating leads through referrals, networking with lawyers, real estate agents, data mining existing depositors, and other methods.
  • Follow up on leads promptly and execute the required number of calls.
  • Participate in sales activities and customer acquisition activities organized by Branch or HQ.
  • Manage sales pipelines, participating in sales management routines where activities and results are reviewed with the Branch Manager.
  • Maintain accurate and updated information on product details, market changes, customers, and leads.

Sales Execution

  • Actively market and sell CIMB consumer products to all customers, understanding and assessing customer requirements and recommending appropriate products using tools such as the Tactical Sales Tool or CPMS.
  • Cross‑sell to CIMB customers and execute sales based on timing requirements.
  • Refer new non‑consumer lending opportunities to appropriate units such as SME desk or Business Banking.
  • Work with the branch sales team to execute the marketing and sales plan communicated by the Branch Manager, including attending launch sites and roadshows when required.
  • Ensure turnaround time for credit, wealth and bancassurance applications and fulfillment processes in the system meet agreed service levels; escalating to the Branch Manager when necessary.
  • Ensure completeness and accuracy of documentation or data entry upon submission or after sales services to Fulfillment Operations.
  • Comply with process and procedures for sales execution, appeals, discounts, redemption, etc.

Customer Relationship

  • Build and maintain long‑term and profitable relationships by providing quality customer service that adheres to customer waiting time guidelines.
  • Obtain customer feedback on sales‑related matters and inform the Branch Manager where appropriate.
  • Resolve customer problems and complaints on sales‑related matters, escalating unresolved complaints to Branch Managers on an exception basis.

Compliance

  • Manage portfolio risk exposure for customers (where applicable).
  • Ensure no discrepancies, exceptions, or non‑compliance when booking rates for Unit Trust, Currency, and Treasury products.
  • Strictly comply with CIMB Bank’s policies and procedures, including credit control, audit compliance, BNM Guidelines, etc.
  • Adhere to the sales code of ethics and governance.
  • Respond to compliance enquiries from Vertical lines (Branch Manager, Revenue & Compliance & CSD Head) and Horizontal lines (Segment Manager, Sales Segment Support Lead).

People Management

  • Encourage and promote teamwork within the branch sales team by providing assistance (training, knowledge sharing, covering duties) when necessary.
  • Identify and share new ideas and approaches for increasing sales and maximizing customer experience.
  • Maintain a conducive and professional working relationship within the sales team.
  • Project a professional business image at all times through high standards of housekeeping and personal grooming.
  • Participate in the Continuous Professional Development Program.
