Job description

Job Summary

The Operator role is responsible for carrying out the required standard activities of their assigned tasks, in full compliance with the Work Instruction and/or Standard Operating Procedure, without compromising their own safety or that of colleagues.

Where required to achieve “certified” status, the team member will be trained to undertake their tasks safely and to a high quality level through a rigorous Job Instruction process. They will be expected to attain the relevant certification, as measured by the competence matrix and specified in the site’s BMS/QMS.

The team member will be fully supported by their Team Leader (TL), who will enable their training, coaching, and respond promptly to any off-standard or quality issues.

They will be expected to actively identify safety concerns (Hazard identification), report problems immediately to their TL (Pull the Andon), and raise improvement ideas to solve problems (Kaizen).

They will be part of a team working to create a ‘Great Place To Work’ through continuous improvement, safe working, and open dialogue.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Contribute to creating a ‘Great Place to Work’ by role-modeling safety-first, supporting colleagues, and fostering a Kaizen mindset.
  2. Hold themselves and team members accountable to embody GKNA culture principles.
  3. Perform tasks in compliance with standard work and training, and immediately report safety, quality, or other issues to their TL.
  4. Exemplify a safety-first mindset and follow all GKN Aerospace Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and standards.
  5. Understand their team’s Key Performance Indicators (People, Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cash, and Cost) and their contribution to them.
  6. Become certified at the Lean Foundation level and implement at least one Kaizen per month.
  7. Support problem solving within the team, contributing ideas based on personal experience.
  8. Be an active team member, promoting engagement and collaboration.
  9. Comply with all legal and regulatory requirements, including:
