We are seeking a detail‑oriented Material Take Off Engineer (MTO) to review engineering, isometric and GA drawings, extract data from AutoCAD Plant 3D, and calculate accurate quantities of pipes, fittings, valves, pumps, steel and equipment for water treatment systems.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical / Civil Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 10 years of total relevant experience.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Navisworks, especially AutoCAD Plant 3D.
- Strong piping design background, space management skills, safety and health attitude, analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of water treatment processes and equipment.
- Excellent leadership, supervision, communication and teamwork abilities.
- Familiarity with industry standards and codes (ASME, ASTM, ANSI, DIN, JIS).
- Experience with other 3D modelling software (e.g., Inventor, SolidWorks, Revit) is a plus.
- Certification in project management or material management is advantageous.
Job Responsibilities
- Administer, develop, maintain all related engineering drawing templates.
- Follow all Group quality directives and input and suggest improvements where relevant.
- Follow the company’s policy to ensure as much project scope as possible is kept within the group.
- Ensure all the work task is following the requirement in the QMS system.
- Review and interpret engineering drawings, isometric drawings, and general arrangement (GA) drawings to identify components and materials needed for water treatment systems.
- Extract relevant information from AutoCAD Plant 3D-generated ISOs or BOM lists.
- Calculate quantities of pipes, fittings, valves, pumps, structural steel members, and other equipment based on project specifications, detail drawing, related engineering document.
- Monitor variations in material specifications, types, and size; and ensure documentation per QMS guidance.
- Review and recommend various applicable materials that align with the equipment specification.
- Work closely with project managers, designers, logistics, vendors, and procurement teams to align with and understand the project requirements.
- Communicate effectively to resolve discrepancies or missing data in drawings or documentation, requisition, and delivery.
- Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to obtain accurate material specifications and/or pricing.
- Ensure precise material take-offs to prevent shortages or excess inventory, in coordination with project team.
- Optimize material usage by identifying common components across multiple projects.
- Maintain organized records of material quantities and specifications.
- Assist in cost estimation by providing accurate material quantities for bidding and project planning.
- Evaluate material costs and recommend cost-effective alternatives where applicable.
- Verify that the specified materials meet quality standards and project requirements.
- Collaborate with quality control teams to ensure compliance with industry standards (ASME, ASTM, ANSI, DIN, JIS).
- Train and support new engineer, including creating SOPs for their reference.
- Collaborate with various design and engineering disciplines, teams, and/or external counterparts via agreed platform such as BIM360, or equivalent.
- Attend meeting with client from time to time subject to the project location.
- Carry out and ensure good filing system for electronic and hard copy documents and is easily retrievable.
- Liaise with the process engineering, fabrication, and project departments to ensure competitive and accurate material takeoff and costing.
- Maintain effective communication with all internal and external relevant disciplines.
- Continue the improvement plan for the basic and detail engineering work.
- Able to travel and stay short term on project site when needed.
